This team was fun to watch and will be extremely tough once the season comes along. Here are some prospects that brought their A game to the Open Gym.
Badru was impactful throughout the open gym in a multitude of ways. One thing that stood out to me was his high motor and willingness to do things like dive on the floor for loose balls. He also got way up for dunks and finishes around the rim. Badru also plays well off the ball, moving well and consistently getting open for paint touches and great looks. He was also very active on defense.

Geremia played at a high level all afternoon long. He consistently got open on the perimeter, shooting at a very high percentage from beyond the arc. The few times he did miss, Geremia made sure to follow his shot, often resulting in rebounds and second chance points for him and his teammates. Geremia also has the ability to finish around the rim and make plays for others, and lock up on defense.

Hopson impressed me with his ability to score in multiple ways. He always seemed calm and in control with the basketball, displaying high-level footwork and a variety of moves that create open looks from all three levels. Hopson is lethal from the triple threat position, using his quick first step to consistently get by defenders. He also showed the ability to take and make tough shots. Keep an eye out for Hopson, he continues to improve at a rapid pace.

Geremia was another player who impressed me with his ability to heat up from beyond the yard. He displayed deep range and the ability to get into the defense and finish with finesse around the mid-range, including floaters. I was also impressed with Gremiah’s ability to take and make big shots. Geremia is set to be a key three-and-D player for Newman this season, contributing in various other ways as well.
Reggie Grodin Reggie Grodin 6'5" | SF Newman School | 2025 State New E

Grodin was another player who played extremely well throughout the afternoon. He consistently got out in transition, showcasing his ability to rise for two-handed dunks. He was also impactful on the defensive end, getting into the passing lanes and generating steals, which often led to points for his team. Grodin was also effective on the boards and wasn’t afraid to mix it up down low. He displayed the ability to knock down three-pointers as well.
