Our next team feature are the reigning Class 4A State Runner-Up The Villages Charter. The Buffalo are destined as one of the favorites to represent Class 4A in Lakeland again this season.
Head Coach: Colt McDowell, 9th Season
Class: 4A
2022-2023 Record: 23-9
Key Returners: Christopher Washington Jr. 6-7 SF (2026). The 6-7 sophomore forward plays with a high motor and has great potential to be one of the top-ranked wings in the state for the sophomore class. Washington is a natural three-level scorer who has continued to improve his shooting from the perimeter. On the defensive end, he is very versatile and moves laterally around the perimeter as well as on the interior. Washington currently holds offers from Bethune-Cookman, Florida State, Stetson, Texas A&M and others.
Key Returners: Kymani Weathers 6-8 PF (2026). The 6-8 sophomore power forward is a viable threat to crash the boards on both ends of the floor where he uses his length to an advantage. On the offensive end, Weathers plays really well in the pick-and-roll where he finishes efficiently around the rim as well as scoring off the catch. His ability to expand his range and shoot from beyond the arc has also taken notice since the beginning of his freshman season.
Highlights
Key Returners: Ben Koubek 6-3 PG (2024). The 6-3 senior combo guard can play on and off the ball at a high level where he gives good energy on the defensive end. Koubek also has a knack for collapsing defenses with his limitless range from beyond the arc and can also score off the catch. He is also an underrated rebounder for his size using his physicality to crash the glass.
Key Addition: Brisun Hammermeister 6-7 SF (2026). Hammermeister, A 6-7 wing has a knack where he can score across all three levels and is an above-average rebounder using his athletic frame to finish put-backs at the front of the rim. His ceiling continues to grow as he has turned his game into another gear on both ends of the floor where he can guard out on the perimeter as well as in the paint. Hammermeister’s length causes a lot of havoc for the opposition and can contest shots on the defensive end across all three scoring levels. His handles are underrated for his size as he has the mechanics of a guard when out on the floor.
Key Addition: Aaron Britt Jr. 5-11 PG (2027). Aaron is a strong point guard who plays with great pace and has a great understanding for the game at a young age. Britt is very athletic and quick when it comes to moving without the basketball in his hands, where he causes a lot of activity slashing for teammates and is only going to get better the next four years. Britt also plays great perimeter defense using active hands and jumping the passing lanes where he gets steals which turn into baskets on the offensive end.
