Good arguments could be made for any of the players on the first team to garner this honor, but Kasperbauer is the top returning scorer for the team that we project to comfortably be the best in the conference, giving him the edge here.
First Team
2024 Michael Kasperbauer Michael Kasperbauer 5'11" | PG Kuemper Catholic | 2024 State IA (Kuemper Catholic): 13.4 points, 1.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.2 steals, 49.8 FG%, 38.5 3P%
Kasperbauer is an electric shooting threat from deep who can get scorching hot and drop 15 points in a quarter. He moves well without the ball in his hands, is a good enough ball-handler and passer to provide some additional playmaking, and is a solid all-around team defender.
2024 Max DeVries Max DeVries 6'2" | SG Red Oak | 2024 State IA (Red Oak): 20.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals
DeVries is the leading returning scorer in the conference and one of the top returning scorers in the state. A versatile wing who can score from all three levels, he pairs with Hunter Gilleland Hunter Gilleland 5'10" | SG Red Oak | 2024 State IA to give the Tigers a pair of dynamic perimeter scoring threats.
2024 Colton Rasmussen Colton Rasmussen 6'3" | SF Atlantic | 2024 State IA (Atlantic): 18.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.2 steals
A 6-3 wing with good size and length, Rasmussen is at his best when he’s playing downhill and getting to the rim or to his mid-range game, but his perimeter jumper is enough of a threat that it needs to be respected. He contributes on the glass and is a solid secondary playmaker as well.
2026 Nicolas Ballenger Nicolas Ballenger 6'0" | SG St. Albert | 2026 State IA (St. Albert): 11.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.4 steals, 37.9 3P%
Ballenger was strong as a freshman for the Falcons and then put together a really good spring and summer, often times playing up as a 17U player. An off-ball guard who can really shoot it, he has improved as a ball-handler and playmaker and will be the focal point of the attack for St. Albert this season.
2024 Franz Reisz Franz Reisz 6'5" | PF Harlan | 2024 State IA (Harlan): 12.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 62.8 FG%
A strong, physical 6-5 forward with soft hands and good feet, Reisz nearly averaged a double-double last season, and with several key losses to graduation, he probably will average one this season for the Cyclones. He pounds the offensive glass hard (3.9 a game), which is where he gets a good chunk of his points.
