Prep Hoops hosted its Freshman Showcase in North Carolina this past weekend at Cox Mill. Here are some standouts from the event that we took notice of in the games that we watched. Let’s dive on in and highlight some of the GameChangers from our annual Prep Hoops Carolina Freshman Showcase.
Matthew is a tough, physical guard, with a good frame who loves to attack the basket off the dribble and does it well. He is difficult to keep in front when he turns the corner for most players his age and displayed the ability to hit outside shots when needed. Got a lot of easy baskets from running the floor and cutting to the rim. Cannon will have another prospect to watch in the future.

Zyon is crafty guard who does his work with or without the ball. Knockdown from outside, and exploits defensive mistakes and missed rotations. Gets others involved while being aggressive getting downhill, and can make things difficult on the defensive end with his quickness. Doesn’t rely on his jump shot but can put the ball on the floor or move well off the ball to get to the rim.
Preston explodes off the dribble with his quick first step and has the ability to change directions with the ball. Helping him get to the rim and keeping pressure on the defense. Displayed the ability to be creative at the rim to finish around the defense. Has a good all around game and will be one to watch at Charlotte Country Day in the future.

McKennon came out aggressive showing a lot of heart on the defensive end. Got his teammates involved early but once he found his rhythm he was lights out the rest of camp. He hits shots off the dribble, brings energy and dissects the defense. He makes plays off the bounce in transition, gets by defenders with his speed, and displayed good qualities you want to see from you point guard.
Easily has one of the highest ceilings out of all campers at the freshman showcase. Brings a variety of things to the floor with his size and skill set. Can get to his spot anytime but loves to distribute and find teammates. Doesn’t take plays off when the ball is not in his hands, he continues to be a reliable cutter and know how to put himself in scoring positions off of screens. His defensive versatility at this age stands out with his feel and IQ being beyond his years.
