This year’s Prep Hoops North Carolina Top 250 Expo at Cox Mill HS was no exception. It was one of five Top 250 Expos that occurred across the nation and the one for the Hoop State took place at a school that claimed back-to-back 3A state championships at the end of the 2017 and 2018 seasons with Chargers great Wendell Moore leading the way.
Cox Mill has since moved up to 4A.
There was a large amount of junior talent that was on hand at the Chargers’ home court. We acknowledged a few of them in an earlier article and we spotlight a few more of them here.
Colin Pinion
Colin Pinion
We are going back into the ranks of the junior class to spotlight this veteran standout. Pinion stands at 6-foot-1. He has no issues attempting shots from long range and will make his fair share of plays close to the basket. Pinion will also bring down rebounds on either end of the floor. He was the lone representative from Kellam that was on hand at this year’s Prep Hoops North Carolina Top 250 Expo. He was also one of a few that arrived into the Hoop State from out of state given the home of the Knights is located in Virginia.

Just as the Trojans of 3A Northwest Cabarrus were well-represented during the girls portion of Top 250 Expo day in North Carolina, the same was true on the boys end of the spectrum. He has had a stint on the travel realm where he wore the uniform of Grindhouse Lakers . Scoring-wise, the 6-foot standout can be very efficient and plays the game on contact which will give his team additional opportunities at the free throw line. Gichaba is one who can score at all three levels – including from behind the 3-point arc – and places plenty of emphasis on taking care of the ball to limit turnovers.
A combo guard out of Greenville, he was one of the talents we evaluated when previewing Sunday’s Prep Hoops North Carolina Top 250 Expo. On the travel circuit, he ran with Team Premier 2025. He also had a stint with East Carolina Elite Gold 17U where he played up in class. Godley is a multi-sport athlete who has also partaken in football to go alongside his basketball accomplishments. He has no problems drawing contact to get to the free throw line and can come through with strong and emphatic finishes at the cup. Godley is an efficient runner of the floor and can make more than his fair share of difficult shots.

In the few seasons that West Cabarrus has been around, the 4A Wolverines have established itself as a name to keep on the North Carolina hoops radar. One can see why when standouts like Warren are in West Cabarrus red during the winter months. Warren stands at an even six feet. His skillset certainly enables him to make plenty of plays either near the rim or in the open floor. He also has experience on the junior varsity squad. Warren was one of two participants from the Wolverines that were part of this year’s Prep Hoops North Carolina Top 250 Expo. His skillset can now be combined with a veteran presence as he enters his junior season.
