On Sunday afternoon and evening at Fishers High School nearly 200 of the states best Class of 2027 prospects came to display their skills in front of many of the most influential people in Indiana High School Basketball. This event is the premier way to get “on the radar” prior to your high school career. Over the next week or so it will become clear why we always say “nobody does content and event coverage like Prep Hoops Indiana.” With that said, here are the player evaluations from Team 4 of the 2023 Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
***With nearly 200 prospects at our event, our scouting staff (of three people) divided up the 20 teams to ensure that we could get evaluations of every player. However, as you can imagine, this is not the easiest task. Our staff watched each team they were assigned to for a minimum of one full game. There were some late player additions and walk-ups that threw a wrench into some rosters as well. So, if you notice that a name is wrong and/or a player is missing an evaluation please reach out to Brandon Ramsey at coachbrandonramsey@gmail.com or reach out via DM on Twitter @BRamseyKSR and he will resolve any issues. Thanks for your understanding and for participating in the 2023 Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase!***
Cameron Patterson Cameron Patterson 5'10" | PG Evansville Central | 2027 IN (Evansville Central):
Patterson was a player that stood out to me based off his solid defense and how he would uses his hands to disrupt the passing lanes. Offensively, scored both off of good drives and pull-up threes. Good areas to build on.
Marcus McKind (Calumet):
McKind was one of the better defenders I saw on the day. Locks in on that end and showed good hands as an on-ball defender.
Brendan Grindstaff Brendan Grindstaff 5'8" | PG West Central | 2027 IN (West Central)
Grindstaff is a shorter guard that also worked hard on the defensive end. On the ball mostly, he showed good passing ability. Not much of a scoring guard yet.
Elijah Drake Elijah Drake 6'2" | SF Brebeuf Jesuit | 2027 IN (Brebeuf Jesuit)
Drake is a tall post for his age. More of a true post at the moment scoring wise but also showed potential as a slid passing big long term.
Eshaunte Jones Eshaunte Jones 6'3" | C Bishop Luers | 2027 IN (Bishop Luers)
Jones is a guard that has a lot of length in his arms and legs, has just not has grown into his length yet. One of the better rebounding guard I saw on the day.
Brandon Hunter Brandon Hunter 6'1" | PG Silver Creek | 2027 IN (Silver Creek)
Hunter was one of the more active players I watched on the day. Works the baseline very well on offense and had a nice pull-up jumper in that area. Also solid shooting the three ball off the catch.
Griffin Ott-Large Griffin Ott-Large 6'1" | PG LaPorte | 2027 IN (Laporte)
Ott-Large was one of the more aggressive players I watched at the Freshman Showcase. Right now, his offense is strictly driving and getting through the defensive contact.
Joel Kurcharski (Carmel)
Kurcharski is a big freshman that is already strong. Aggressive on the drives but just needs to finish a bit better. Love how he communicated on defense.
Greg Pieterek Greg Pieterek 5'10" | PG Evansville North | 2027 IN (North)
Pieterek did a good job of battling through traffic. Rebounded very well in the game I watched of his.
