About Brendan

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a true floor general who takes pride in controlling the pace of the game. With future plans to coach, I rely on my basketball IQ and play like an extension of the coaching staff. Offensively, I’m a highly efficient three-level scorer who values great shot selection and capitalizes at the free-throw line. On the defensive end, I’m aggressive reading passing lanes to create turnovers.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Mentally, I am poised, highly analytical, and laser-focused on winning. Because I study the game with the intent to coach one day, I value making the smart, unselfish play over the flashy one. I don't get rattled in tight situations, and I believe my calm demeanor helps keep our offense grounded when the game speeds up.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Becoming a junior this year meant stepping up as a true leader for our program. I take my role as a point guard seriously, which means actively mentoring the underclassmen and making sure our team stays unified. I make sure to lead by example with my composure and work ethic.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My biggest challenge is the assumption that comes with being a smaller guard from a small town. People underestimate me until the ball is tipped. I use the elite AAU circuit as my proving ground to show I belong with top-tier talent. I rely on my high basketball IQ, grit, and work ethic to outplay my matchups and control the game.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a university that offers a highly competitive basketball environment and an excellent business program to prepare me for my future career. Because my family is my biggest support system, staying somewhat local to the Midwest is a major factor in my decision. I want to play for a coaching staff with a great culture where my family can be part of the journey.

Grindstaff displayed very good balance as a driver and was always under control with the ball in his hands. The 5’9″ guard from West Central High School was able to get into the paint consistently and finished a tough jump shot off of a spin move that really stood out. He was a good all-around playmaker in the backcourt for Team 12 at the Prep Hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp.
