Ethan Vahl 2028 (Thompson Jr.) 5’11
A thin and wiry guard who can play with the ball in one on one situations. Ethan can shoot and pass with the best of them. He made the first two or three and then started to dish out assists as the game went on. What I liked about Vahl is he never backed down from any of the players on the court despite being a grade lower than everyone.
Devin Cleveland Kenwood 5’10
The one player we already knew about coming into the event was this Kenwood star who lit up June with Kenwood. Cleveland is a smooth scoring guard who displayed deep range on his shots but doesn’t waste all of his shots on the three-point line. Devin is exceptional off-ball screens and will draw attention as he beats the first line of defense to make an easy assists or score himself. One of the top prospects in the class, could Devin be the best-scoring guard in the state?
Dawson Charles St. Viator 6’2
Charles has a strong motor with good athleticism to match. At the rim he is an explosive player with his size. When he rebounds the ball he grabs it with authority each and every time. Dawson is good because he can beat you off the dribble or beat you from the three. He is a very intimidating presence especially when he blocks shots on the defensive end.
Hayden Schroeder Wheaton Academy 6’5
As maybe one of the most dominant players in the event. Hayden showcased a lot of skill and toughness around the basket with his ability to score through contact which stood out. Schroeder crashes the boards hard and can push the ball on the break at times which he did a few times that ended up with buckets. Hayden has a skillset that can help high school varsity teams right now.
Caden Crudup Whitney Young 6’4
Crudup plays with an exceptional pace for basketball. He is a bigger wing player with solid handles and footwork. He made several strong drives to the rim where he used a spin move to separate himself from defenders and scored several times. Caden was pretty consistent on the glass snatching anything within arm’s reach. Crudup’s steady play landed him on the list.
Jacob Fuller Glenbrook South 6’7
Fuller was one of the bigger players at the event. A very skilled stretch forward who runs the floor hard and gets good positioning around the basket. As a shooter, Jacob showed good touch from the corner and wing spots on the court. He made a plethora of threes in the game I watched. Being the biggest player in the gym he is fundamental around the rim, and keeps the ball high on offensive putbacks. On defense, he used his length to disrupt shots when smaller guards challenged him. As he begins his high school career if Fuller starts adding some strength he can have an immediate impact on the varsity level this season.
Jamier Montgomery Warren 5’11
As one of the most exciting players at the event. Jamier has a surreal handle on the basketball. His go-to move most of the time was a crossover that he uses to get separation and space from his defenders. Throughout the day he got to the rim at will, scoring in various ways. If he was on the perimeter used the crossover into a step back in which he knocked down several shots in the flow of the game. Montgomery is also an exceptional passer, as he moved the ball in tight spaces setting up teammates very well. After playing most of the summer with Crane high school Jamier made his decision to attend Warren last night so look for Jamier and
