The camp, held at the Tarkanian Basketball Academy consisted of drills, educational workshops and games. It also featured over 30 prospects including several local players. Here’s a look at our Day 1 impressions.
It was a good day for Harris. It wasn’t fancy or shifty, but the guards play was highly effective. Perhaps efficient is the best word to describe the scoring guards play. He consistently made one move and attacked, getting anywhere he wanted on the floor. Effectively using the bounce before finishing plays by knocking down jumpers from mid range and behind the arc.
Forget a member, Lide is the President of the All -Irational confidence team, with that confidence becoming all the more rational each time I see him play. In a camp setting, good luck defending him. He got them up and they went in. The sniper was money from out past NBA range on multiple occasions, showing the ability to shoot the ball off the bounce.
Thought Collins stood out. His shooting and athleticism are nearing the elite level. He missed a 1 hand windmill during drills that would win a lot of dunk contest. In game his first step was unstoppable and he shot the ball well off the bounce, with range and while being heavily defended. Stockrising type of day for the incoming sophomore.
Highlights
Chambers is one of the players I’m most excited to watch. Nearly a year ago he said on camera that he wanted to improve other areas of his game. It looks like he’s doing it. I didn’t see his dunk but I heard it and it was during a half court play. He shot it ok, but his vision and passing was the best I’ve seen.
I have to get a measurement on Whittle’s hands. He snagged a bunch of in traffic rebounds using strong mitts to wrestle the ball away from defenders before palming it like a baseball and tossing an accurate outlet. He used his size to score with his back to the basket, taking his usual beating before finishing tough interior layups.
Allen and Harris’ games are similar in many ways. Like Harris, the Democracy Prep Guard used the bounce masterfully. Allen showed a strong handle, some a burst and the ability to get into the lane and score. He had one of the best pull up games on the day.
