Continue ReadingThis coming weekend the Check Rock League, one of the Delaware Valley’s most competitive summer runs, tips off its eighth season. This summer the Check Rock League games will once again be played at the 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Delaware.
This invitation only league features elite 2024 through 2027 prospects from the tristate area. Below is Part II in our preview of the 2023 Check Rock League rosters. Obviously, there will be a focus on players from southeastern Pennsylvania who are participating this summer.
B’ay Ray’s
Two of this summer’s biggest stock rising prospects in SEPA– Jordan Ellerbee Jordan Ellerbee 6'2" | CG St. Joseph’s Prep | 2025 State PA and Isaiah Marshall Isaiah Marshall 6'2" | CG Friends Select | 2025 State PA will headline this group. Those two will team with highly touted New Jersey prospect Emmanuel Samuel as well as a slew of talented prospects from Delaware to form a formidable roster.
3 & D Sports Performance
3&D is heavy with talented Delaware prospects, but representing SEPA will be Khaafiq Myers Khaafiq Myers 5'10" | PG Neumann-Goretti | 2024 State PA and Kasey Fleming Kasey Fleming 6'3" | SG George | 2026 State PA . Myers (12 ppg., 41.7% from three at the Peach Jam) is an ultraquick guard who can score at all three levels. Fleming is a 3-point sniper. But if a defender bites on one of his pump fakes, he will put the ball on the deck and get to the cup.
Cut it Wright
This roster features the dynamic backcourt tandem of Thomas Vaughn (Phelps School) and Milan Dean Milan Dean 6'3" | SF Archbishop Wood | 2025 State #286 Nation PA . Vaughn is an amazing athlete who can drain threes and play above the rim. Last year Vaughn dropped a 39-spot on Wilmington Christian (DE). Dean posted an incredible July circuit. Then last week he was named an all-star selection at the HG Invite Only Elite Camp. West Catholic’s Tariq Jennings Tariq Jennings 6'6" | SF West Catholic | 2024 State PA will be an outstanding scoring option on the wing for this team.
Mitch’s Mo Better Chicken
We don’t know how Mitch’s chicken tastes, but his Check Rock League roster is fantastic. The guard duo of Kyree Womack Kyree Womack 6'1" | PG Bonner-Prendergast | 2024 State PA and Kobe Bazemore Kobe Bazemore 5'10" | PG Upper Dublin | 2026 State PA are going to tear opponents to shreds with their elusive dribbles. Both can smoothly execute drive and kick plays. Which is great because on the wing for Mitch’s squad is three-point ace Luke Brown from Salesianum (DE). As a bonus, this roster contains a top 2025 prospect in 6’6” wing Kodi Johnson Kodi Johnson 6'6" | SF Phelps School | 2025 State PA .
Locker Sole Shop
Locker Shoppe will be an extremely entertaining team to watch. High flying scoring machine Josh Reed Josh Reed 6'3" | CG Archbishop Wood | 2024 State PA , combo guard Anthony Hobbs Anthony Hobbs 6'0" | CG Cardinal O’Hara | 2024 State PA and West Philly’s Brandon Williams Brandon Williams 6'4" | CG West Philladelphia | 2025 State PA headline what is sure to be an up-tempo attack. Combine those three with highly rated New Jersey prospect Deuce Jones as well as several solid prospects from Delaware and you have a team that should compete for the 2023 Check Rock title.
