Continue ReadingWe are currently in the process of updating our class rankings in the state of VA, so I thought it would be a fun time to look at who I would rank as the top 25 players regardless of class in the state. It’s a tough task as it involves looking at projections of younger players who still have a lot of growing and maturing to do versus older players who are more college ready now. However, it’s a fun way to look at and compare some of the top players across the state and their projections moving forward.
Obviously this is not perfect and a lot of things will change over the next few years, so let the debating begin!
* Side Note: We do our rankings as a team, while these are my personal opinions. Not everything will align with our last rankings or our future rankings moving forward.
25) Riley Jacobs Riley Jacobs 6'8" | C St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2025 State VA | 6’8” C | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes 2025
Jacobs has emerged as one of the top players in the state over the summer, as he had a big summer with New World and SSSAS and has a slew of division one offers to show for it. The 6’8” big man has a blend of new and old school to his game as he is strong in the paint and able to finish through traffic as well as mobile enough to run the floor and finish above the rim. He’s highly productive and a walking double-double and he’s starting to extend his range to beyond the three-point line as well.
24) Sincere Jones Sincere Jones 6'7" | SF Churchland | 2025 State VA | 6’6” WF | Churchland 2025
When it comes to raw talent, there aren’t many that have more than Jones who had a sensational sophomore season with Churchland and followed it up with a great summer with Team Loaded as well. Jones looks the part as he has a football style frame that is strong and super explosive and he plays with a good motor that makes him effective across the board, as well as a budding skillset that includes the ability to score the ball from multiple levels. He’s picked up a handful of division one offers and has high majors tracking him to see how he continues to improve over the next few years.
23) Keon Mitchell Keon Mitchell 6'2" | PG Norview | 2026 State VA | 6’1” PG | Norview 2026
It’s still a little hard to project the rising sophomore class against guys much older than them, but Mitchell has shown to be a very talented guard that burst on the scene as a freshman and has a lot of tools that will translate as he continues to improve and grow. He’s a dog at the point guard position as he competes on both ends, he scores the ball effortlessly off the bounce and he likes big matchups where he can get the best of other great players. He already has a great frame and an advanced skillset that will only get better with time.
22) Deshawn Spellman Deshawn Spellman 6'6" | SF Landstown | 2026 State VA | 6’6” WF | Landstown 2026
When it comes to the wings in the 2026 class, Spellman looks like the most sure thing as a high level prospect as he already has the prototypical frame and length necessary as well as base skillset that is very impressive. At 6’6” Spellman has long arms and is a fluid athlete that allows him to guard and challenge shots as well as rebound, and he is a good shooter for his size with the ability to put it on the deck as well. While he doesn’t hold many offers we know about yet, he’s part of a young Landstown core that will have coaches flocking in to see him the next few years.
21) Silas Barksdale Silas Barksdale 6'7" | PF Woodside | 2025 State #176 Nation VA | 6’8” PF | Woodside 2025
Barksdale had a huge summer with Boo Williams, picking up early offers from numerous high major schools and while he still has work to do he could end up one of the top prospects in the loaded 2025 class. His long term potential is off the charts as he’s young for his grade and still growing into his body, but his hands and touch in the paint as well as his ability to rebound and protect the rim are already highly impressive. He should get more fluid and explosive and fill out his frame with time, and he still has a lot of room to grow that is very intriguing moving forward.
