After an exciting year of high school basketball action in the Volunteer State, it's time to revisit the 2022-23 campaign as we look at some of the most impressive players on the court last season. Today, we will be kickstarting my "Volunteer State Standouts" series as we focus on some of the best returning senior point guards in the state for my first positional breakdown. Without any further ado, here's my list of the top 2024 point guards in Tennessee to watch for this upcoming season.

At the top of my list of standouts is [player_tooltip player_id='1145719' first='Tyler' last='Tanner'], a 6-foot-1, 165-pound point guard at Brentwood Academy. Tanner was one of the most explosive weapons on both sides of the floor for the Eagles during his junior stint of high school basketball last year. In addition to excellent size and speed, what stands out about Tanner is his overall scoring effort and smart passing. The rising senior out of Brentwood, TN. impresses with his ability to drive to the rim and hit the outside three. Heading into next season, Tanner will definitely be a point guard in the Volunteer State to keep an eye on.

Finishing in second place on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1121414' first='Jahvin' last='Carter'], a 6-foot-3, 175-pound point guard at Alcoa High School. Carter was one of the more efficient weapons on the Tornadoes' roster during his junior season of high school basketball last year. In addition to solid size, speed and versatility on both sides of the floor, what stands out about Carter is his ability to organize the offense at the top of the key, drill deep three-pointers and drive to the rim. Carter's deceptive passing additionally impressed me as he consistently confused defenders with his team-oriented and winning playstyle. The rising senior out of Alcoa, TN. will definitely be worth watching this upcoming season.

In addition to excellent size and speed, what stands out most about Tenner is his solid ball control at the top of the key, quick movement off the dribble, his ability to sink floaters from range and drive to the rim. Heading into next season, Tenner is definitely a point guard in the state of Tennessee to watch more closely.

With solid size, speed and versatility at the top of the key, Montgomery made his presence known on the court last year. The rising senior out of Thompson's Station, TN. showcased excellent ball control, passing and was an efficient shooter from beyond the arc. Montgomery's quick movement and ability to protect the basketball also impressed me. Montgomery will certainly be worth keeping an eye on next season.

Hickerson was one of the most explosive talents on the Spartans' roster during his junior stint of high school basketball last year. In addition to his solid size and speed, what stands out about Hickerson is his scoring, rebounding and efficiency in stealing the ball. The rising senior out of Memphis, TN. also impresses with his ability to move quickly down the court, pull up for jumpers and drive to the lane. Hickerson is without question a highly explosive point guard prospect in Tennessee to watch for this upcoming season.
