ECI got off to a rough start against AUSA, but Isiah put together a big second half to help bring them back and make it a game for a while. The NDSU football commit is an athletic wing at 6’2 who plays a bit bigger than his size with his ability to rebound at a high level and defend anywhere on the perimeter. Caught fire for a while in the second half draining three point and mid-range shots. He’s an athletic slasher, so when that jump shot is falling consistently it makes him that much more dangerous as a scorer.
Jaden just announced his commitment to Minnesota-Duluth, and did so coming off a strong showing in Chicago. Against Mac Boys Basketball he sparked a comeback for Select by draining three straight 3’s in the second half. Caught fire in another game as well as he scored 8 straight buckets to finish with 25 points in a win over Team Ten Jabari Parker. At 6’5 he’s such an explosive athlete who can finish above the rim with ease in transition, and as he showed in multiple games he can catch fire from three. One of the breakout players of the spring/summer.
Highlights
Tino had a solid showing helping lead his team to a close win over Minnesota Select . Nothing flashy about his game, he just takes advantage of what the defense gives him to produce in efficient fashion. Solid mid-range game and knows how to take advantage of his size against smaller wings in the paint. Moves well off the ball allowing him to score without having to dribble much, and he offers an additional rebounding presence with his roughly 6’5 frame. Defensive versatility to defend on the wing or against smaller posts.
Highlights
Marcel Calvin
Marcel Calvin
Marcel was feasting in transition in the first half against Wisconsin Blaze. Uses his length to get up in passing lanes and create steals, and turned them into easy finishes at the rim. In the half-court he’s a good shot creator who can get downhill and beat his man to the rim, while also recognizing when the space is available to pull-up from mid-range. Was fearless attacking the basket and going straight at a 6’9 big man.
Mario Charalambous
Mario Charalambous
Mario has a very intriguing frame that helps him produce on both ends of the floor. He’s extremely long at 6’5, and is a fluid athlete at that size. Able to guard most spots at the high school level, and utilizes his length to get up in passing lanes. On the offensive end he’s an athletic slasher with good body control to convert from some difficult angles at the rim. AUSA came up against a Minnesota Fury team that was playing at another level over the weekend, but Mario was one of the few bright spots for his team in that matchup.
Lucas Wherley
Lucas Wherley
The game just looked easy to Lucas as he helped lead his team to a big win over AUSA. Nothing looked forced on the offensive end, as he was shooting it efficiently from three, and making quick reads with the ball. Fury was creating high percentage looks with their quick ball movement, and Lucas’ awareness to make a quick decision with the ball was a big part of that. Good measurables at 6’5 on the wing as well. Could be in for a breakout junior season for a deep Shakopee team.
Samuel just found ways to get easy looks around the basket against Minnesota Select . He was cutting hard off the ball, spiriting his lanes in transition, and fighting for second chance opportunities on the glass. At 6’3 he has some size, and a strong frame with broad shoulder that suggest he could keep adding strength while keeping his mobility. Good finisher through contact that had no fear going up against some size inside. Full Package came out slow out of the gates, and Samuel really provided that initial spark that they needed to get going and eventually come away with the win.
