Capital City Does It Again Knocking Off Shoe Team Winning over Meanstreets
Oops They Did It Again! Oh wait that person is in the basketball news this week too! Regardless Capital City Teamwork once again knocked off a shoe team just like they did to Team Rose in the spring. Sunday morning it was Meanstreets 2026 playing up in the 16U division as the boys from Springfield won 69-58.
Jacksonville 2025 combo guard Amaree Burries is a long and lanky rising junior that had a huge game scoring 24 points getting to the rim, out in transition, hit a three, and was very impactful defensively. Projectable guard that has his stock on the rise! Shaunassey Hatchett is the star of this team and the Lanphier wing brought his physicality with burst off the bounce, put backs, and finishes in transition for 14 points.
Benet 2026 standout Gabe Sularski went for 13 points in the loss. Long and rangy wing that hit crisp pull up jumpers, finishes at the cup with his go to euro step, and played an all-around solid floor game. The lone 2025 on the team Sunday Derek Bishop from Mundelein gave them a spark off the bench hitting a three, competed on D, and had a spinning layup for 11 points.
North Florida United Tops Illinois Bears as Leivonin Drops 24
Anthony Leivonen was the story for North Florida United 17U as they won over the Illinois Bears 68-57. Tough wing that can score from all three levels and that is what he did carrying his team in this contest scoring 24 points. Also got help from Tyler Cowan who had 16 points in their win.
For the Illinois Bears they were paced by Carterville forward Aiden Hinton who had a nice weekend overall. Power wing that always plays really hard. He shot it well from three off the catch and brought his work horse mentality on the interior along with slashing in the paint for 17 points. Breese Central shooting guard Mason Shubert is a plus shot maker that got hot in the second half from distance racking up 11 points.
Minnesota Fury 16U Is All About That TEAM
Maybe the most cohesive unit I saw all weekend was Minnesota Fury’s 16U group as they won against Meanstreets 70-63. They played nine guys and everyone of them contributed in the win. Back cuts one after another. They share the ball so tremendously well and play like a true team. The prospects that caught my attention were Nikolas Domier and Devin Pass. Domier is a forward that can score inside and out doing damage in the post, on cuts, and hitting the glass for 12 points. Pass is a plus shooter from three that has a smooth all-around game and plays with in the structure of their sets.
Meanstreets was pushed by Whitney Young standout Marquis Clark. One of the top guards in the 2026 class from Illinois Clark was slippery off the dribble, made nifty transition conversions, and hit several threes in a 15 point outing. Nas Rankin played a solid game as well hitting several from distance and putting pressure on the rim for 12 points.
Size of AUSA Impresses in 16U Victory
AUSA Rex 16U has tremendous size on their front line with 7’0” center Xavier Istomin-Monroe and 6’9” James Dyson. They helped lead AUSA to a win against Capital City Teamwork 66-40. Istomin-Monroe is so intriguing with his length and mobility. Runs very easy for a footer scoring on rim runs, seals, pick/rolls, and put backs for 11 points. Length was impactful as he monitored the interior defensively. Dyson is a big boy in his own right. The five man has a strong frame with the ability to score inside doing most of his damage at the cup showing nice fluidity as an athlete in a 16 point outing. Benjamin Matanimeke is a name to track down the line for this Australian squad. Two guard with a good frame puts pressure on the rim and gets to the line racking up 15 points.
Shaunassey Hatchett was the leading scorer in this one for Capital City with 16 points.
Green Obliterates Rim in LA Broncos Showdown Against Joe Little Athletics
The LA Broncos had to switch jerseys as they came out in their home whites. Most of the team came out in black. Star Trey’Dez Green didn’t have a black jersey so he went with light blue. You see a third jersey a lot in football for QB’s that can’t be hit. Instead the LSU football and hoops commit was all about dishing out the punishment in the Broncos 65-57 win against Joe Little Athletics. Green opened the game on a mission throwing down dunk after dunk after dunk. One of the tip dunks was one of the most athletic slams I have seen in a long time! Elite rebounder that snatches them with two hands in traffic and is a force defensively as he had 19 points. Broderick Brooks continues to show why low-major schools like Southern and Southern Miss are showing interest. Rangy two guard that can score from all over the floor including feathery jumpers falling for 14 points.
Joe Little was down huge in the first half, but give them credit they fought back in this one! They picked up the intensity on the defensive end and that translated into points. Nate Kongolo is a smooth guard that has size. Flew all over defensively and scored in the open floor for 10 points. Corey Johnson had 15 points in the loss putting a lot of pressure on the rim and finishing through contact. Lucas Hobin flashed as a shooter with size knocking in several from deep along with some crisp pull ups for 16 points.
Lituanica Duo Shines During In-State Battle
In their win against Big 3 it was a complete show put on by Lemont guard Klaidas Paskauskas. The 2024 lead guard was excellent shooting the ball from deep, making sound decisions as a passer, and playing with creativity off the bounce for 19 points. Really put his name on the map with his squad! Lemont 6’2” shooting guard Matas Gadukevicus is a long and rangy wing that should continue to grow. Flashed a lot of projectability and athleticism in a 9 point outing.
AUSA Too Much Depth for Kyle Guy Elite Sizzling Guard Duo
AUSA Sepo got a tough test in a 52-48 victory over Kyle Guy Elite. Lechlan Brewer was outstanding once again. Huge fan of what this Australian wing brings to the table. Great size, athleticism, and slashing ability. Made plays in transition on sweeping layups. Pick/pop threes and turnaround jumpers in a 12 point outing. William Mortimore stands at 6’10” and can this five man move well for his size. Rim runs with ease, finishes everything around the hoop, and crashes the glass as he had 11 points.
Kyle Guy Elite got a huge performance from their backcourt specifically Jack Cherry. The point guard notched 17 points in the loss using his toughness getting in the paint along with hitting several threes. Eli Ellis had a lot of buzz about his play in Chicago and closed it out with a 14 point outing in this one draining an array of jumpers from his combo guard spot.
Wings Duel It Out in Chicago Lockdown vs Illinois Attack
Final game of the event we wanted to check out Illinois Attack as we hadn’t got to see them yet this weekend. Their 17U squad put up a good fight, but came up just short as Chicago Lockdown won 61-55. For Lockdown they were led by Stagg wing Connor Williams. The shooting guard came out blazing with three triples early on along with a slash with his off hand. Like him at the small college level. Evergreen Park 6’5” post Billy Buchanan played very well in this one bringing the energy on the glass for several put backs.
West Aurora lefty two guard Jordan Brooks is primed for a big season. Explosive scorer that can rip off a run of points in a hurry like he did in the first half. Drained multiple threes, got to the rim for crafty finishes while showcasing a killer crossover, and passed it well too! Colin Gerrity of Neuqua Valley is a skilled small forward that connected on some jumpers, used his athleticism in transition, and showed grit. Bolingbrook point guard Josh Aniceto is so fun to watch. High IQ guard that makes everyone around him better with his passing and leadership. As a scorer he isn’t afraid to go in among the big men for tough buckets and can stop and pop from mid-range.
