It was the perfect setting for the hundreds of college coaches in attendance and scouts that made the trip, as we got to see the top talent in the country.
Here’s a look at part one of some of the standouts that I saw from the DMV.
Derik Queen | 6’9” PF/C | Team Thrill 2024
Queen was nothing short of fantastic for Thrill this weekend, leading them to the Sport Radar Championship and a couple of big wins over other shoe company teams in showcase games as well, as he looked like one of the top players in the country. He’s one of the most versatile bigs you’ll see as he was unguardable one-on-one in the post and scored it efficiently, he worked well at the high post as a shooter and as a distributor, he rebounded and showed his ability to start the break and he put up huge numbers across the board throughout the weekend.
Daquan Davis Daquan Davis 6'1" | PG Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #119 Nation GA | 6’1” PG | Team Thrill 2024
The Providence commit was part of the best backcourt I saw in Vegas, and he was their leader on both ends of the floor with his toughness, competitiveness, high motor and production level across the board. He showed his great speed in transition and his quick first step with the ability to change speeds and touch the paint, he made shots from deep and in the midrange off the bounce, he flew around defensively and jumped passing lanes and he made plays for others effortlessly.
Brant Byers | 6’8” PF | Team Thrill 2024
Byers is one of the more unsung heroes on this Thrill team, as he’s getting recruited pretty heavily at the mid major level but the way he played this past weekend I could see his recruitment picking up over the next month or so. The 6’8” forward showed his inside-out ability as he shot the ball extremely well from deep, he ran the floor and finished in transition, he showed good IQ and instincts as a passer and a defender and he gave them a different look as they could go either big or small with him on the floor with his ability to play many different positions.
Luke Bamgboye | 6’10” C | Team Thrill 2024
Bamgboye was one of the top recruits in the Maryland area before he decided to move away to focus on basketball, and his play in Vegas showed why he’s getting touted by high major programs from all over. At 6’10” he is a freak athlete for his size with long arms and he’s explosive around the rim allowing him to reject shots and play well above the rim, he has good touch around the rim and out to the three-point line and he makes winning plays on both ends of the floor.
Chance Mallory Chance Mallory 5'10" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2025 State #73 Nation VA | 5’8” PG | Team Thrill 2025
Mallory has had a huge summer with Thrill, playing on one of the top teams in the country and at 5’8” showing he can play with the best of the best, and he did just that helping them to a Sport Radar championship. He’s one of the smartest and most skilled players you’ll come across and he’s shown the ability to play with or without the ball in his hands and make plays, he can really shoot the basketball and he can get hot and fill it up in bunches, he made plays on both ends of the floor and when his team needed him to he stepped up time and time again to make plays in crunch time.
