I’ll have full breakdowns on each of those prospects later in the week but wanted to spotlight some national guys I caught along the way of my regional scouting at the event.
Andrews had a big game as Brad Beal 15 U got a bounce back victory over The Family in the morning. A big-time athlete, the lefty wing was attacking downhill with force and looking to finish at the rim with a dunk or layup. As a defender, Andrews wasn’t afraid to contest shots at the rim and had a couple impressive blocks. Once the game was in hand late, Andrews hit a time and space 3-pointer then a transition slam dunk to cap off an impressive victory for his team.
Super competitive guard who lived at the free throw line, Jeffrey was using his muscular frame to take contact. Also attacking the offensive glass, Jeffrey had a nice turnaround jumper on a second chance opportunity. Defensively he provided a lot of pressure on opposing ball handlers and caused some turnovers. In transition Jeffrey had a nice lefty finish and threw an alley-oop pass for a slam dunk. Was a big fan of what he brought to his team on Tuesday.
Nightrydas 16 U squad is obviously headlined by the Boozer twins but the reason they are so tough to beat is the balance their team has and how different guys contribute every game around them. Lloyd is a steady presence who led the team in scoring and shot a ridiculous percentage from the floor. Knocking down jumpers from spot-up and running off screens, Lloyd was hitting the shots that his teammates set up. An impressive athlete in the open floor, Lloyd had a couple transition finishes and had a tough and-1 spin layup. Defensively, Lloyd looked to jump passing lanes and even took a charge on an out-of-control driver. An unsung hero of one of the top grassroots teams in the country, Lloyd is well deserving of praise and high major interest.
My first time watching Team Final was a fun experience as the three headed guard monster of Bethea, Wright and Nowell picked apart New Heights Lightning. One of the elite shooters in the country, Bethea got going on the first possession of the game running off two screens and burying a deep 3-pointer. Hit at least three or four corner 3-pointers, defenders simply can’t help off him on the strong side with either Wright or Nowell having the ball because they’re gonna find him every time and more often than not it’s 3-points. Once the game got out of hand in the fourth, Bethea threw down a couple transition slams to get above 30 points. A five star prospect putting forth a five star showing on the big stage, nothing more you’d want to see from Bethea and Team Final, who look like they’re on a mission so far.
