Continue ReadingNelson Shinkle was a must-watch player that stood out all weekend during #PHMileHighMadness. At 6’8, his offensive game takes a lot of teams by surprise. So, it’s only fitting that he helped lead his Columbia Supreme team to a championship. Nelson is a capable 3-level scorer that knocks down the 3-ball consistently, giving him the edge on offense with guarded by true bigs that can’t really move on the perimeter. Although he can handle his own on the perimeter don’t let that overshadow the work he does in the paint. All weekend he was stingy with the rebounds giving his team an extra possession or limiting opposing teams to one shot.
Jazayah Gates has an all-round game that makes him a threat on both ends of the floor every game. He can guard the opposing team’s best guard while also being able the knock down timely shots for his team. To some, Gates may seem like the ultimate glue guy but after watching him play multiple times you start to realize he is somebody that does what needs to be done to win games. All of this made him one of the most complete players we had at the event this past weekend.

You usually see a kid light it up for a game or two and just think maybe this is just their game That was not the case with Carson Awe as he consistently put the ball in the basket from all over the floor every game. The 2024 guard from Wisconsin came to Denver and left an impression that will be talked about for a while. His game brought energy to the team and raised the level of play, giving his teammates the confidence to play freely.

As a coach, Matt Drake checks all the boxes that you would want in a lead guard. He is a fierce competitor that gives 110% on the defensive end of the floor as well as being one of the vocal leaders. The way he takes on guarding the opposing team’s best player each game and allowing his offense to come from that makes him a tough cover. Once he’s able to get it going offensively, he is able to score with the best of them.

With summer ball coming to an end, the growth of Evan Mckean Evan Mckean 6’4″ | PG Castle View | 2025 State CO gives me something to look forward to when the school season begins. Over the course of the weekend, Evan did what he normally does, by putting the ball in the basket and out rebounding teams, but he seems to have found his rhythm. Evan was very efficient around the rim all weekend as well as being able to step out and knock down open shots.
