Wings were some of the more impressive players on the floor in DFW during the weekend. In this Prep Hoops exclusive, we will look at some of the wings who showed their worth during the live weekend in DFW.
Broderick Brooks Broderick Brooks 6'4" | SG Zachary | 2024 State LA (LA Broncos | 2024 | 6’4″)
Brooks was one of the more impressive wings during his time in DFW because of the myriad of things he did on the floor. Brooks played the back side of the Broncos defense helping on drives and back cuts. He pushed the ball and created transition possessions for his team. Brooks showed that he can score on all levels and he took advantage of his height on a ton of occasions. He was one of the best players on the weekend.
Taysen Combs (Amarillo Nets | 2025 | 6’3″)
The Nets guard made scoring the ball look effortless during the weekend. Combs scored the ball from outside and in the paint with a feathery jumper and a willingness to put his head down and get to the rim. He also tried his hand guarding as many as four positions as he helped his team to the championship game. Combs is a wing that gives you what he has on both sides of the ball even if he is undersized. He is highly skilled.
Kellen Jedlicka (Arnold Elite ’24 National | 2024 | 6’4″)
Jedlicka has blossomed from a player who played with his back to the basket as a freshmen to a player who can do it all on the floor offensively. He has the ability to play in the high post and be a facilitator as well as a scorer. Jedlicka can step out on the wing and shoot it as well. His ability to score in the post is what puts teams in a quandary. Jedlicka is a threat anywhere on the floor and made a difference on the floor in DFW.
Carson Keach (B&B Academy ’24 | 2024 | 6’3″)
B&B Academy was one of the surprise finalists during the Grind Region Finals and Keach was one of the reasons. Keach was in attack mode in every game during every game at the tournament. He knows how to get to the rim to score the rock almost at will. Keach did score from the perimeter as well showing he can score at multiple levels. However, he is hard to prevent from getting to the rim. His ability to do that is an exceptional trait.
Brandon Kellum (Flash! Elite ’26 | 2026 | 6’2″)
There was no wing more active during the Finals than Kellum. He is a player who played both ends of the floor, rebounded like a power forward, and scored around the basket frequently. Kellum was Flash! Elite’s best rebounder during their way to the 15U championship. His ability to finish in transition at or above the rim showed he was ready for the level of competition they played. Watch out for him as he gets older.
Jordan Mathews Jordan Mathews 6'5" | SF Peabody | 2024 State LA ( Cenla Storm ’24 | 2024 | 6’5″)
Mathews showed the versatility of his game during the Storm’s run to the quarters in the 17U bracket. He was a back to the basket player who now is a threat from 18 feet and in. Jordan has a mid-range jumper that is almost automatic from the free throw line and he has added the ability to handle the rock. His ability to dribble up or push in transition hampers defenses. Mathews finishing ability at the rim also gives him the edge over defenses.
The Grind Region Finals showed a group of wings that can handle themselves on the hardwood. Look for them as they perform in the various showcases and college play dates throughout Texas and Louisiana that are coming up.
