Continue ReadingOlmstead is so much fun to watch, a true PG with excellent handles, a tremendous feel for the game, and great court vision. He does a great job keeping his defender off balance, using his handles and change of pace to blow by defenders and get to the rim, where he’s a really good finisher, despite being one of the smaller players on the floor. He’s in complete control on the offensive end, getting to the rim when he wants, and finding his teammates with pinpoint passes. He didn’t make any 3s in the game, but the form on his shot looks good, with good rotation and a quick release off the bounce.
Gustafson got off to a scorching start in Fury’s 15U semifinal win over ECI , knocking down three 3-pointers in the first four minutes of the game. He moves really well without the ball in his hands, has his feet squared on the catch, and a quick release. Defensively he has good instincts and rotates well.
Highlights
A powerful 6-1 wing who does a great job using his physical frame to bully his way to the rim, Glandt showed the ability to score from all three levels in ECI ‘s narrow semifinal loss to Fury. He can finish through contact at a high clip, contributes on the glass, and showed a smooth stroke from deep in the second half.
Highlights
A 6-1 sharpshooter with a quick release and plenty of range, Aldinger showcased a smooth stroke and great off-ball movement. He has a pretty, high-arching shot that he gets great rotation on, and he showed some secondary playmaking ability, keeping the ball moving and getting his teammates involved.
Highlights
Isaiah Erb
Isaiah Erb
Erb had a huge second half in Academy’s loss to Illinois Elite, showing the ability to score in a number of ways. One possession he would catch on the wing and attack to get to the rim. The next he’d be knocking down a catch-and-shoot 3. A few possessions later it was a backcut for a finish at the rim. A 6-2/6-3 wing with a smooth stroke off the catch, the lefty also does a great job getting his defender on his hip and getting to the bucket via the dribble. He’s a really good all-around offensive weapon who also displayed good court vision and passing.
Lucca Svaldi
Lucca Svaldi
A big wing with great passing skills and court vision, Svaldi plays the role of a big point guard for his Academy team. With his size advantage, he’s able to get his teammates involved at a high level, putting them in positions to succeed. He’s a pass-first offensive threat, but he showed a smooth stroke from the mid-range and was really successful operating out of the mid-post area as both a scorer and facilitator.
TJ Hortion
TJ Hortion
Hortion is small, listed at just 5-8, but he made a major impact on both ends of the floor, esp ECI ally down the stretch, in Elite’s win over Wisconsin Academy. He’s a vocal leader on the floor, helping his teammates through screens and through sets on the offensive end. He’s a good ball-handler and skilled passer who sees the floor really well. He looks to get his teammates involved first, second, and third, but also has the ability to break down the defense and get to the bucket for finishes of his own. On the defensive end he has quick hands and feet and works hard to compete against bigger players.
A 6-5 wing with good size, Quam is a pure scorer with a picturesque stroke and extended range. He has a great feel for the game and is willing to take smaller defenders onto the block, taking advantage of his size and physicality to score on the block. He’s a tremendous shooter both off the dribble and the catch, and he showed the ability to create looks for himself. He rebounds well on both ends of the floor and is a good enough defender that he isn’t a liability on that end. He had 29 points in Select’s win over South Dakota Identity.
Highlights
Tietz is a flamethrower from deep with a pure stroke and quick release. He got off to a scorching start against Select, knocking down three first-half 3s, with two of them coming within the first few minutes, setting the tone. He has really good footwork and does a great job using ball screens to create some additional space, but he also showed that he can shoot it well off the catch, using off-ball screens to find some space. He keeps the defender off balance with his change of pace and speed. Defensively he has good instincts and does a great job jumping passing lanes and turning defense into easy offense.
