The Grind Region finals were a series of well played games for the most part during the weekend in DFW. The guards were the ones that dominated play during the weekend. There was some very high level play by the guys 6'3" and under. In this review of the Grind Region Finals, we will look at guards who impressed during the weekend in DFW.

[player_tooltip player_id='1275325' first='Ayden' last='Warren'] (Cenla Storm '24 | 6'0")

When you talk about point guards who can shoot from the perimeter, Warren was probably the model for that. When the Storm played, Warren bruised teams with his ability to shoot from deep. He also knew when to make them. His shots pushed the lead of the Storm further and created opportunities for his team to win. Warren could also drop a dime which made him one of the better guards in the building.

[player_tooltip player_id='2197029' first='Kheiri' last='Haynes'] (LA Broncos '24 | 5'9")

Haynes was the MVP of the 17U section of the Grind Region Finals. His ballhandling and his ability to get to the basket were the two things that set him apart from the rest of the guards. Haynes also displayed the ability to absorb contact and get to the foul line almost at will. Haynes showed that he can be a primary option as well which bodes well for him going into the season.

Mac Terry (CP Magic '24 | 6'1")

The Magic guard showed that he could be complete point guard during his play in DFW. Terry showed that he could get to the rack when he had the advantage and that he can make good decisions in transition. He also was good at shooting from the perimeter. Terry is a better than average point and can make things happen with the ball in his hands.

Matthew Carter (High IQ Hoops '24 | 6'1")

High IQ made it to the quarters of the 17U bracket and Carter was definitely one of the reasons. He is a guard who can shot it from the perimeter but is best attacking the rim in transition. Carter showed that he could finish above the rim and at the rack. His attacking style is not unusual but did throw defenders off at times. He is very good at what he does on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='1850309' first='Sebastian' last='Arius'] (BDH Elite '25 | 6'3")

Arius was in full attack mode on Saturday and Sunday. He has a complete floor game and can score from all three levels. While he relied a little too much on his three point jumper Sunday, Arius still was able to score from the other two levels and in transition. He is a guard that can do numerous things and is hard to stop when he gets things rolling.

[player_tooltip player_id='1778982' first='Kensington' last='Candler'] (Flash! Elite '26 | 6'1")

Candler is a flat out sniper on the offensive end. He will put it up from any level on the floor and more times than not, he makes the shot. His team won the 15U championship in large part because of his play. Candler hit a buzzer beater in the semifinals and kept hitting jumpers the rest of the afternoon. Candler can also push the ball as a point guard and facilitate. He is a player who has a ton of potential.

Look for these players to participate in various showcases and play dates for colleges going forward this fall.
