At the youth level, guards and bigs control games. Today will focus on guys that man the paint. Below are five guys 6’6 and taller that stood above the rest at the Passion region finals.
Adonai Mussie
Mussie is one of the southeast’s hidden gems. The 6’10 front court player can block shots, stretch the floor, and has touch in the paint. He’s working on short shots in the paint and adding strength to fill out his frame. It’s his ability to affect the game that has our college coaches peaking into his games. Mussie is getting love from D2 schools but could draw interest from bigger schools as he matures physically.
Hunter Woods
Woods had one of the best motors in the building this weekend. The string 6’8 forward with a football background crashed the boards, scored in transition, and finishes through contact. His combination of strength, athleticism, and “want to” led to second chance plays. He’s a dirty work guy that can defend and do all the little things that’ll frustrate other tans on both ends of the court.
Lavant Burgess
Burgess competed at the 16U level as a 2026 prospect and left the tournament as a walking double-double. At 6’7 he has a string frame that allows him to carve out space in the paint. He’s a strong rebounder, has good touch around the basket, and plays an efficient game. Burgess has size, great hands, and upside.
Khore Furlow
No Excuses Elite had one of the best front courts in tournament because Furlow. The 6’8 forward says he’s drawing interest from low major school because of his energy, size, and flashes of wing skills. He runs the floor, knows down the three in rhythm, and makes physical plays. His physical tools should keep teams intriguing as he rounds out his game.
Pointer is a 6’6 forward that dominated 17U despite playing up an age group. He’s a strong physicality gifted big who uses his physicality to score in the paint. He’s right hand dominate finisher but made a few shots with touch using his left hand. Pointer has a good free throw line and down game and will stretch the floor. He’s been one of the most consistent bigs throughout the summer.
