In this article, we are looking at Dudes from Day 1. However, we are only looking at players from the afternoon/evening. PHD did a piece on the Standouts from the AM. CLICK HERE to look at that article.
We have a mix of 13 players from Minnesota and North Dakota included in this article. See below for info/comments….
Day 1 Dudes
He played more as a 2-guard today because of the pick-up player from Hopkins ran the 1. Austin showed his athleticism with interior scores, body-control finishes, and with extreme hang time. I was impressed with his ability to contort his body around the D when scoring at the cup. I loved how Dre high-pointed rebounds. He showed sharp awareness when cutting and scoring. His handles were on full display when he made a defender stumble backwards, he put the D on ice skates! After he shook the D, Austin went in for a score between two defenders. Andre’ showed off his versatility today by making an impact as a combo guard.
He stuck out with his up-tempo play and speed. Victor was in attack mode! I like his athleticism and playmaker instincts. Victor showed a sweet floater, a dirty hesitation move, and fluid three-point shot. It looks like North has another athletic guard that teams will have to deal with in the EDC.
He is light and fast on his feet. Willie showed quick hands and reaction time. He leaped into the air and picked off a pass like a DB. He stole the ball and scored in a flash. Shortly after, Horatio, slashed into the heart of the defense and scored with a lefty flip-shot over the D. He also made crisp passes to teammates for buckets to keep the score close. I liked how he pushed the tempo and kicked the ball ahead. Late in the game, Willie showed off his speed with a coast-to-coast finish. He weaved through traffic like a race car driver. I loved his energy and never-quit attitude.
Owen Rabe
Owen Rabe
He went for 18 points, one three-pointer, and an AND1. Owen is long, strong, and tough. He ran the floor hard, he finished through contact, and he has a nose for the ball. Rabe looked like a man amongst boys when rebounding the ball. Owen was a DUDE when he led the Heat to an afternoon win.
He had a hot hand in the game I watched. Deion went off for 30 points and he knocked down 6 triples. The Iowa battler looked like a walking bucket and he never took his foot off the gas.
The baller from Hopkins was easily one of the quickest players on the court. He was also fearless. Smith tried dunking on a player twice his size, he would have WHAMMED it but he was fouled and he went to the line for FT’s. Anthony was also one of the most skilled players on the court. He can make all the passes, the easy ones and the flashy dimes. On multiple occasions, Smith threw behind the back bounce passes off the dribble. When slashing to the rim, Anthony made it a habit of finding shooters. He also hit a top-of-the key 3 and he scored at the rim. I was impressed with how hard he pushed the tempo. This kid is a player.
Parker Wallette
Parker Wallette
He is a crafty baller with a smooth pull-up game. Wallette has an old-man type of game where he can really do damage from mid-range. Parker was crafty around the rim with impressive finishes. He produced inside & out. I thought Wallette was great at using angles to his advantage. He was also productive rebounding the rock.
Houston Davis
Houston Davis
He scored in bunches. Davis got hot from the 3-point line in the first half and I lost track of how many he hit. It seemed like whenever the ball left his hand it was going in. He knocked down multiple treys in transition. Houston also scored off the bounce. He was a vacuum rebounder on both ends. I thought he did a good job of boxing out, keeping his man held back, and attacking the ball. Davis was also impressive with his deep and accurate outlet passes.
Isiah Dow-Hilliard
Isiah Dow-Hilliard
He was a playmaker on both ends. Isiah turned the ball over on D and he swatted shots off the backboard with his long arms. He showed off his vertical with a highlight-reel SLAM. Dow scored other baskets with an O-board tip-in, a soft floater, and an AND1 score. The Cardinals from Redwood Valley have a DUDE!
He was sensational in the morning and Angau finished off the day with a sensational performance. John went for 34 points, 4 triples, and was a perfect 8/8 from the charity stripe. You name it, Angau did it! The Mustang crushed from all over the court. He hit 3’s off the catch & dribble, nailed mid-range jumpers, drilled step-backs, scored at the cup, and he put in floaters like a fleet-footed PG. Angau also blocked shots, picked off passes, and he hustled up & down the court. I was impressed with his on-ball D as well. John moved his feet and he cut of would-be attackers. Saturday at the Twin Cities Takedown was by far the best basketball that I have seen Angau play. John was a DUDE!
Highlights
The UND football commit was the strong man on the court. He certainly was a DUDE on the O-glass. Paye was gluttonous when it came to grabbing offensive rebounds. He showed off his explosiveness with a 1-one handed hammer-dunk that you could feel from the bleachers. He also showed a sweet spin-move. I am excited to watch Paye one last time on Sunday to wrap up his AAU career.
This Oriole is fast/speedy/quick and all the other superlatives. The lefty was constantly in the paint. Defenders struggled to keep Denedo in front. Timmy was on the wing and in a flash he was at the rim. He got to the line 12 times in the second half. Denedo was in attack mode and he was smart about drawing contact.
Highlights
He stuck out at a big and strong athlete. Blomquist was physical and he did not shy away from contact. He made plays in the paint and on the perimeter. He looks like a forward but delivers passes like a skilled guard. Kyan delivered 1-handed passes off the dribble accurately. He knocked down a triple with a nice-looking shot. I liked his aggressiveness on O & D.
