Continue ReadingLike College athletics, the High School offseason generates a lot of buzz about where these young athletes will take their talent each year. They have gained a better understanding of transfer rules and open enrollment, causing players to shuffle to programs they feel will develop their game and get them the exposure they desire. I will be covering some top transfers who will contribute to their new teams in a big way.
A big move in Lincoln, Love is taking his talents to Lincoln Northeast to be the man. Northeast lost a tremendous amount of offense with Porter Bazil and Christian Winn graduating, along with up and comer Jaxyn Cruse Jaxyn Cruse 6’3″ | PG Lincoln Southwest | 2026 NE transferring out. Love will look to step in and showcase his talents in a big way for the Rockets. He brings an attack the basket mentality, with a pure mid-range game and athleticism to rebound when he commits. Love’s length gives opponents fits on both ends of the floor as he is a sneaky good rebounder as well. There is smoothness to his game and the talent is evident with the multiple Division I offers he has picked up. I see a lot of similarities to Hunter Sallis with his frame and skillset, which is a special combination. Love has already opened eyes during this offseason, but it may just be the appetizer with the main course on its way.

The first of three big Silverhawk additions, Bradford averaged a little over 8 points a game last year in a crowded Lincoln Southeast backcourt. He showed flashes of his potential in multiple games with quick defensive hands and getting out on fast breaks. Bradford has a quick trigger and is not hesitant to pullup from distance off the dribble or a screen. He puts pressure on defenses by quickly flipping to an offensive mindset and gets down the floor in a flash often leading to high percentage shots around the rim. Love’s absence leaves Braden Frager Braden Frager 6’6″ | SF Lincoln Southwest | 2025 State #211 Nation NE as option 1 but there are offensive touches that need to be filled. Bradford will benefit from the opportunity and begin to display his next level ability.

https://twitter.com/Marishumaker_rnMy favorite type of point guard is a floor general type of guard, your Chris Paul, John Wall, or Mike Conley type point. I believe Shumaker has this potential with the opportunity, and he has a great shot at getting it this year with his transfer to Lincoln Southwest. The Silverhawk’s will have a plethora of perimeter talent with BJ Bradford BJ Bradford 5’11” | PG Lincoln Southwest | 2025 State NE , Jaxyn Cruse Jaxyn Cruse 6’3″ | PG Lincoln Southwest | 2026 NE and Braden Frager Braden Frager 6’6″ | SF Lincoln Southwest | 2025 State #211 Nation NE all needing to be fed. Shumaker’s skillset and ability to setup an offense could be his coming out party if he accepts the challenge. Shumaker also has a terrific offense package as well. His court vision allows him to find creases to attack with multiple finishing moves. He shot 43% from beyond the arc and only grew better as the 2022-23 season progressed. I expect Shumaker to make a big jump this year as long as he accepts the role he can thrive in.

Cruse is stepping into a wonderful situation in transferring to Lincoln Southwest. Currently, Cruse is a fantastic 3 and D type of player who is a stingy, quick-witted defender who can create turnovers and force tough shots, while being a threat to hit from deep on the offensive end. His freshman year he played in 25 games as Lincoln Northeast’s tenured guard depth was lacking. This year Cruse will be allowed to flourish from a spread floor with threats like Frager, Bradford, Shumaker and Drake needing attention. His talent is already evident and we will watch his offensive confidence grow right before our eyes this season. A talented and competitive locker room will make sure of that.
https://twitter.com/BhanBuomrnSome have probably heard analysts or scouts say “You can’t teach length” and that resonates with Buom. His 6’8” frame and wingspan leaves college scouts drooling. His length is something to be desired, but his explosiveness stands out on film even more. When Buom decides to attack the basket, it’s as if he is shot out of a cannon. With limited touches at Lincoln Southwest, Buom is taking his talents to Lincoln Southeast this fall to team up with Taye Moore Taye Moore 5’9″ | PG Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE and Jake Hilkemann Jake Hilkemann 6’4″ | SF Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE to still make the Knights a threat in the Lincoln area and Class A. Buom will bring a balance to the team with his athleticism and slashing capabilities. He has an underrated jump shot and can face up to take defenders off the dribble. Buom will be a very fitting piece to the Knights puzzle on both the offensive and defensive ends and should see his stock climb similar to Bangot Dak’s this year.

Thoat is an interesting prospect. He did not get consistent minutes at Lincoln Southeast last year, which has led him to Lincoln NorthStar this fall. Thoat is shifty, can create his own shot in the lane, finish through contact and knock down threes when the stroke is working. He will team up with KG Gatwech and an emerging talent in Lazerek Houston Lazerek Houston 6’0″ | PG Lincoln Norttar | 2025 State NE . Thoat will get an opportunity to showcase what he is capable of and I would not be surprised if the Navigators have all three players in their lineup consistently, applying tons of pressure on defenses to protect the rim while forcing hard closeouts on the perimeter. Thoat will start to show up on college coaches lists come this winter.
