Roberts had it going pretty early with his crossover and combo scoring around the rim. When the lanes were clogged Roberts relied on his shot to get him out of tough situations. Rajon is a scoring guard that understands when he needs to be more assertive when his team’s offense is lagging. Roberts was so good that he practically played with one eye as he was poked in his right eye earlier in the game and still managed to be one of the top scorers of the game.

Another player who was on point early morning was Gill. He just has an all-around presence to his game. Phoenix attacks off straight-lined moves. He is always ready to pass the ball out if a whole closes. Phoenix didn’t shoot the ball as much but he did get to the basket quite often and was fouled in the process. For a guard, he helps crash the boards and had some pretty tough outlet passes that hit his teammates right on the money. For my first in-depth look at him I walked away really impressed.
Brent Taylor (Lincoln Way East) 2025
Taylor may be my shock of the day. In a matchup with Riverside Brookfield, he walked away as one of the better players on the court. Brent shot the ball well as he hit five threes in the game which was just a sample. Taylor is agile and pretty athletic when getting to the rim. He scored some very tough baskets with his thin and wiry frame that looked effortless. Brent was very consistent in a game that had several D1 schools coming to see players from the other team.

Thompson was the best player on a court filled with future scholarship players. Davion was on point from start to finish. He broke guys down with his crossover and tight spin moves to the rim. When off the ball he slid to open spaces and hit open shots in catch and shoot situations. When his team was down 2 points with the game on the line Thompson scored the game winning bucket in front of a standing room only court.

Worsham had a slow start but picked it up real quick once he saw the ball go through the net once. Calvin is a rugged and physical post player with good footwork and touch. He looked good getting rebounds and pushing the ball with a purpose. Even in a loss Calvin opened some eyes of coaches who never seen or heard of him before.
