Like day one, there were some performers from both Louisiana and Mississippi that caught the eye of the coaches and scouts in attendance. In this Prep Hoops review, we will look at some of the players who were rising stars on Day 2 of the JSE in New Orleans.
Josh Smith Josh Smith 6'3" | PG Madison Prep | 2024 State LA (Madison Prep | 2024 | 6’2″)
Smith had one of the better games, and days, of all of the Louisiana recruits on Sunday. Against the second best team from Mississippi, he showed the ability to get to the rim against taller defenders and an ability to post smaller ones. Smith scored at all three levels in the game and displayed his athleticism as well. He is a prospect that will get more looks after his performance on Sunday.
Trey Alexander (Clinton Christian Academy | 2024 | 6’2″)
Alexander was one of the best guards at the JSE. He showed that he was a three level scorer in every game he played. Alexander took all types of contact throughout the weekend whether on the perimeter or at the rim and still finished with makes. He is a smart guard who has point guard handles and is not afraid to take any shot. Alexander was very impressive during his play in New Orleans.
Eli Pichon (Brother Martin | 2024 | 6’1″)
Pichon is one of those guards who has such a various skill set that a defense does not know how he is going to attack. He kept defenses off balance with his ability to get to the rim and to shoot from the perimeter. Pichon also knows how to score or make the right play in transition. His ability to pass and score was a big help to his team during the JSE.
Dorian McMillian (Pascagoula | 2024 | 6’3″)
One of the more athletic guards playing on Sunday was Dorian McMillian. He was a terror in the open floor using eurosteps to finish at the rim and also catching alley-oops. McMillian has a long wing span and deflected passes and made it hard to make passes when he defended perimeter players. He is an active and live-bodied player who can make a difference on both ends which will help his team on Sunday.
Lionel Bell Lionel Bell 6'8" | PF BTW-New Orleans | 2024 State LA (BTW-New Orleans | 2024 | 6’10”)
Bell was a player I had heard about in the last year but had not seen him. During his Sunday at the JSE, Bell was active around the basket on both ends. He blocked several shots and changed a ton of others with his respective team. Bell also finished above the rim and finished a lot of shots after contact. He has a soft touch around the rim and can definitely defend the basket. Bell might be due for a breakout senior year.
