The live viewing period with hundreds of college coaches from all levels and National Media on hand to see lots of top prospects including our own top NorCal prospects in action. In this article we put the spot light on some of the lessor known prospects in the 2024 class that caught our attention, and maybe a few college coaches and scouts with their play.
Thompson impressed with his ability to finish around the rim coming from different directions. He’s long with good hops and hang time to throw down dunks. At 6’5 he’s a guard/forward with handles using balance, lift and spin moves, along with his body to get his shots in the paint over bigs. His mid-range jumper is consistent. He’s controlled attacking the rim in transition, and can go coast to coast. He knocked down a 3ptr in transition. His length takes up passing lanes, and he goes and gets rebounds.
We thought he was a combo guard, but now we can safely say he’s a point guard. He showed he can run a team up top with patience, he’s a willing passer who distribute to players up court and along the perimeter. A 6’3 PG who handles ball pressure. He’ll penetrate to dish, find cutters, or throw lobs and other passes into the post. He has quick feet, and hands for steals, and stays on defenders in the open court.
Standing 6’2 Butler is a big body guard who knows how to use it to his advantage, he has good hops, he tried to throw one down in traffic. He’s a good rebounding guard, who can push the ball himself in transition. He had strong drives going into the paint not bothered by contact. He’s good around the basket using his body from the mid-post turning and attacking the rim drive.
The 6’9 Lamb had college coaches watching him work from the outside in, his movement was good around the perimeter. He showed us he could knock down the open 3ptr in the corners and up top. He’s a ball mover with excellent passing from the high and low post. He went up against a player his size, he held his own. He got rebounds to start the break. He stayed in the middle of then court in transition.
He’s a solid guard that worked mostly off ball showing us he’s a credible shooter that can knock down 3’s in the corners and coming down in transition. He has quality handles with good foot speed to get by defenders, for paint jumpers or take it all the way, playing off two feet or laying it up high off the glass over shot blockers with his left. He plays at a good pace, he made good use of the pass with lobs into the post, bounce passes to cutters into the lane. He passes up in transition and makes good decisions.
