Masci Martin – 2024 – SG – DCBA 17U
Martin is a quick and physical guard who moved around the floor a bit this weekend. He has good size and strength for that size with the ability to score at all three levels on the floor. This tournament at the 17U level was stacked with good games this weekend, many of which went into OT. In the contests that I watched of Martin he helped lead his team in OT for an impressive win, along with the help of some of his teammates. Masci is a solid overall prospect. He brought a lot of good to the floor this weekend and I think he can do that at the next level as well in the future.
Ty Pflughaupt Ty Pflughaupt 6'4" | SF North Linn | 2024 State IA – 2024 – SG – Iowa Prep 17U Platinum
Pflughaupt is a matchup nightmare for his opponents with his combination of size and shooting ability. He stands at around 6’5 and can spread the floor and knock down a shot from deep or work from the mid-post and in to create something near the hoop for himself or his team. There are a lot of good shooters throughout the state of Iowa but when Ty is feeling it, he is in the top majority of that group. He was a constant performer for his team this weekend and honestly, has been this entire spring. I’m excited to see what he does with this momentum going into school ball this month. With the type of game he brings to the floor, I could see him having his best high school season yet coming up this winter but we will have to wait and see.
Spencer Roeder Spencer Roeder 6'5" | PF Maquette Catholic | 2025 State IA – 2025 – SF – 4th Quarter Development 2025
Spencer Roeder Spencer Roeder 6'5" | PF Maquette Catholic | 2025 State IA had himself a weekend. A weekend that included a 38 point outburst from the 6’5 forward, in efforts to lead his team to a 12 point victory in that contest. Roeder is a forward who understands his size and skill level to a T. He knows when to use his length advantage compared to when to distribute to an open teammate. Roeder’s overall game was one of the best I saw this weekend throughout all age levels. Looking forward his ceiling is high. His size is nice, even for the college level. I’m expecting a big summer out of him, leading into school ball at Marquette Catholic this winter.
Casen Reid Casen Reid 6'2" | CG Wilton | 2024 State IA – 2024 – CG – Team Iowa 17U Elite
Casen Reid Casen Reid 6'2" | CG Wilton | 2024 State IA is a player that I have seen a few times this spring and more-so than anything, he is consistent in what he does. He isn’t a player who is going to blow you away with a flashy move but instead he will stick to the fundamentals and beat you with execution over everything else. That was the case this weekend. Reid was a constant provider for his team while doing what he does best, playing his role and making the most of it. Coaches need a player that they know will be consistent for them game-in and game-out throughout the season, Reid is one of those players in my book. You put him on the floor and you know what you are going to get. He is going to get you 8-15 points a game along with recording some other positive stats in the book for whatever team he is lacing up for. Something he showed a couple this weekend.
Nolan Mcdonald – 2024 – SG – Iowa Mavs 17U Grey
McDonald had himself a nice Saturday afternoon for his Iowa Mavs 17U Grey team. The 6’1 shooting guard was filling up the bucket in a plethora of ways. He was stepping up and hitting tough mid-range jumpers, getting all the way to the hoop off of the dribble for a finish at the rim or a trip to the line, and he was knocking down three pointers over defenders when his teammates created for him. McDonalds stock has been rising this spring as he has been receiving some D3 and D2 interest out of the midwest. He is hoping to ride this momentum into putting together a nice summer for his City High – high school team out of Iowa City, leading into their season this winter. Something more than do-able if he continues the pace he is on currently.
Matthew Darbouze Matthew Darbouze 6'4" | SF Linn-Mar | 2024 State IA – 2024 – SF – Iowa Prep 17U Platinum
The Iowa Prep 17U Platinum team this weekend went 5-0 and won their championship for the 17U division. This comes to no surprise if you know the pieces that this team/program is equipped with. A big reason for the success of this team this weekend and frankly this spring, is their forward Matt Darbouze. Darbouze is a strong and athletic forward who stand at around 6’4. He is very good around the hoop with his coordination and understanding of the game. This weekend he was a constant for his team on both sides of the glass, while scoring the ball at an efficient pace. If you have heard of the term “glue guy” before you understand it means a player that keeps his team together by the sort of plays he makes on the floor, that’s a perfect way to describe Darbouze ‘s game in general and the way he performed this weekend.
EJ Salettel IV – 2026 – PG/SG – Wisconsin Swing 15U
It was my first time having the opportunity to watch EJ Salettel IV compete this weekend and he definitely stood out. The guard of the 2026 class stands between 6’1 and 6’2 already with a really nice skill-set for his age. He is very good with the ball in his hands but is the type of player that can help his team in several others ways without having the ball all the time. I think that’s an important factor to mention as some players, especially when they are younger, are only good because they are ball dominate. That is not the case in this situation even though his teams are at their best when he is in control of everything. He has a decent handle with the ability to bring the ball down the floor if asked. Salettel has a bright future a head of him, he made that obvious this weekend with his Wisconsin Swing 15U team.
Jonathan Irvin Jonathan Irvin 5'9" | PG Linnmar | 2024 IA – 2024 – PG – Team Iowa 17U Elite
Irvin comes off the bench for his Team Iowa 17U elite team and this weekend he made the most of his opportunities, leaving him on the floor for an extended period of time throughout each game. When Irving is confident is when he is at his best. He has a good amount of fundamentals and experience with the skill side of the game, it’s all about his confidence. On Saturday afternoon Irvin was feeling himself. Lighting it up for 12 points, going 4/4 from three in one of his contests to help his team battle against a very good JustAGame Select 2024 team. Looking forward I am curious where Irving ends up for his college career. I have a feeling that he is going to find a home over this next handful of months but I’m not sure where too. Wherever it is, they are getting a player who loves and respects the game of basketball more then most. Something you can see by watching him compete out there on the floor.
Connor Glasgow – 2024 – SG/CG – DCBA 17U
Connor Glasgow averaged a double-double this weekend in points and rebounds. In his teams 4 games he had around 16 PPG and 11 RPG. Impressive numbers when you see the competition that this team was playing against. In each game that I got to see Glasgow he had a lot of good moments. He can spread the floor and score the ball in a number of ways, he can create for himself or his team off of the dribble, he has good size to rebound at the combo guard/shooting guard position, and he competes at a high rate on both ends of the floor. All of this stuff, when you combined it, makes a pretty well rounded overall player and that’s what Glasgow is. He displayed that this weekend and I’m sure that will continue moving forward.
Jackson Anderson Jackson Anderson 6'0" | PG Union | 2024 State IA – 2024 – PG/SG – Iowa Prep 17U Platinum
Jackson Anderson Jackson Anderson 6'0" | PG Union | 2024 State IA has a slingshot for a shooting arm and that was on display this weekend. In half of his teams contests he lead them in scoring while filling it up from all over the court. You would describe Anderson as a shooting guard with range but he is more than that. He is an efficient scorer at all three levels on the floor, not just behind the arc, and he can create/rebound better than most other guard around him. Defensively, Anderson is no slouch. He is athletic and physical near the hoop with some active hands. This all leads to a good amount of steals and blocks for the guard. I’m a big fan of Anderson’s game. He is a confident player who I think could really do some positive things on a college floor somewhere out there in the near future.
