The tournament was filled with talent and has great games all weekend. In this article, I will be talking about some of the players who preformed at a high level.
Elijah Pierre – Kamiak HS
Elijah impressed me all weekend long. He has a very good pace to his game and can adjust to what defenses give him easily. He puts the ball on the ground and attacks the rim really effectively, using his body to his advantage to get to the hoop. For future teams that plat him, don’t leave your hand down. He has deep range and hits from 3/4 beyond the three point line with ease. He helped lead Kamiak to the championship game where they fell to Cedarcrest.
Murphy Vliem – Cedarcrest HS
Murphy is a player who really stood out to me. He can play inside or outside, but excels when working from the high post. He can pull up for the shot right at the elbow with ease and knock it down. He is aggressive when getting to the rim and uses his strength to his advantage. He plays with so much energy it rubs off on his teammates and helps the team go on runs. He led Cedarcrest to a championship over the weekend, edging out Kamiak.
Quinn Swanson Quinn Swanson 6'2" | SG Mount Vernon | 2024 State WA – Mount Vernon HS
Quinn is a walking bucket getter. He is capable of taking over games and scoring 10 straight by himself. He attacks well and can finish through traffic effectively. He stops on a dime with ease to pull up for a mid-range. If the defender doesn’t close out, Swanson will shoot it and more times than not he will sink it. He gives teams 25/30 points but it looks so nonchalant that it’s quite impressive. He helped lead Mount Vernon to the semi-final round where they fell to Kamiak.
Talon Jenkins – Meridian HS
Talon has grown since the season last year. He stands around 6’5″ and has been putting on muscle to maintain his strong frame. Jenkins was very impressive during the weekend displaying all aspects of his game. He was knocking down 3’s, getting to the rim, distributing to his teammates, and getting deflections/steals on the defensive side. He helped lead Meridian to the semi-final round before losing to Cedarcrest. He has a ton of potential and he’s a player I can’t wait to watch during the season.
Alejandro Amaral – Cedarcrest HS
Alejandro attended Eastside Catholic last season but was suited up for the Red Wolves over the weekend. Amaral has great size and very solid handles. He can shoot the ball very, very well from deep. He has a smooth lefty jump shot and fit very well with this Cedarcrest team. Alejandro played a big role for this team that captured a championship here at the Laurel Shootout.
Michael Johnson – Mount Vernon HS
The other part of the Bulldogs backcourt is Michael. He is a shifty guard who is hard to stay in front of. He has great speed and controls the pace of the game well. He is fantastic in the pick and roll, finding his big men for easy buckets. He is a great passer, had the best vision from a player all weekend, having many games with at least 8-10 assists. He is going to have a very impressive junior year next season.
