Continue ReadingWalter Matthews Walter Matthews 6’7″ | C Hiram | 2024 State GA returned to the hardwood this weekend and put any rumors to rest that he may sit out his senior season after committing to play football at USC. Matthews is a physical specimen, a 6’7 tight end with bounce and great hands. He’s got great instincts on the court, most of his impact coming from blocks around the rim and put-back dunks. Matthews looked good this weekend having not played in a while. He was super active inside and got to the free throw line a ridiculous amount of times. Hiram has deep run potential with Matthews anchoring the middle.
Dutchtown was one of the toughest teams in the gym this weekend, their size and length inside proving to be a handful. While Hinton’s scoring totals won’t blow you away, his impact is tremendous. Hinton has a great build at 6’9 to pair with an especially high motor. He was great protecting the rim and tallied numerous blocks in each game. There’s still lots of room for Hinton to develop skill wise and his best basketball is certainly ahead of him. After a strong weekend, Hinton grabbed his first 4-year offer from Reinhardt.
It’s a very new look for Newton this year but leaders are beginning to emerge and that’s what Ted Neal Ted Neal 6’6″ | SF Newton | 2025 State GA did this weekend. Neal is an interesting case, playing inside for Newton but he projects as a 3 at the college level with a ton of upside. He’s athletically gifted and plays above the rim, a dangerous lob threat behind the defense. He looked solid operating out of the high post, hit a couple of 15-footers that looked good. Handled it well in the open floor too. Neal’s first offer came from Cal State Bakersfield last week.
Josh Hill Josh Hill 6’10” | C Wheeler | 2024 State #167 Nation GA had two great live periods and did a lot for his recruitment in June. Hill is the sole big man for Wheeler right now and he’s been the topic of conversation at most of their games. His physical tools are unique, 6’11 and super long with room to add muscle to his frame. While Hill can block shots and clean up around the rim like a 6’11 forward should, his shooting touch is unique. Hill’s most recent offer came from Marquette and they had multiple coaches in to see him this weekend.
John McQueen John McQueen 6’5″ | SF Eagle’s Landing | 2024 State GA is officially back. He’s fully healthy and sporting a new McEachern jersey after sitting last year at Langston Hughes. McQueen’s looked great this month, playing a key role for McEachern and doing a little bit of everything. He’s got a solid 6’6 build to pair with a tight handle and some passing ability that caught my attention this weekend. With his size and versatility, McQueen can play inside or out which really helps McEachern when they’re missing the bigs. He’s a guy that college coaches will want to see in July with AOT.
