The event featured teams ranging from 10U to 17U and provided the perfect opportunity to evaluate a ton of prospects both ranked and unranked. Here’s a look at my notes from the event.
Simpson AKA “Celly Cel” will definetly make my all nickname team, he’s already a card carrying member of my all pitbull team. The on ball defender, was his usual fearless self, and was one of the fastest players with the ball in his hand from end to end. His value doesn’t always show up in the stat sheet, but between his defense and playmaking he showed why he deserves to rise.
Fralin is a player that is becoming more and more intriguing to me. In a short time, he’s gone from more of a banging big man, to a more fluid, agle face up player. He impressed with some strong slashing ability, and played with a tenaciousness on defense that was impressive.
Saw Rodriguez earlier in the week and wasn’t able to catch up with him, I wasn’t going to let him get past me on this day. He showed his usual irational confidence, banging home multiple threes in the game I saw. The jitterbug PG has moxie, and always seems to have himself a game when I show up.
Lossee moving to 4A may be the best thing that’s happened to realignment. Daniel highlights the talent that they are expected to have as he was arguably the best player I saw on the day. Got to the rim at ease, and looked a level above the competition in the game I saw. I shared with him that I’ve never seen him play this well, if he translates that to the season, look for the Lions to be a problem.
Taylor was good on the defensive end. With his length and upper body strength, he has no problem defending nearly every player on the floor. He showed some grab and go ability, pushing the ball and leading the break after grabbing a defenisve board.
I’ve gotten to see Goss in bunches recently, and wouldn’t mind seeing more of him. He plays with near perfect pace, almost going so slow, he’s fast. He’s one of the best in his class at getting to his spot on the floor, as he showed off the same deadly mid range that I saw when I evaluated him a few days earlier.
Everytime I see Knight, I like him a litte bit more. He has long arms, complete with a lean frame that he uses to slash to the lane. He’s stronger than he looks as he was able to finish through contact several times in the game I saw. While not officially ranked, he’s probably increased his initial rankings spot.
