The league has provided the opportunity to get to evaluate several players, including those fighting to climb the rankings ladder. Let’s look at some potential stockrisers from the event.
It’s been a while since I’ve had the chance to lay eyes on Johnson. Originally I had him evaluated as mostly a shooter, he impressed today with his ball skills. Johnson flashed some quick COD’s including a smooth behind the back dribble to split a full court trap at half court.
The Desert Shields have a chance to have one of the best backcourts in 4A next season. Fezell is to the finishing, as Tyree Bruce Tyree Bruce 5’11” | PG Cheyenne | 2025 State NV is to the passing. The combo guard showed some nice transition moves. Using slick Euro’s to create angles and avoid defenders.
Onykekonye is on the brink of becoming a breakout player next year. His movement was a ton better than when I saw him during the high school season. The long armed big showed the ability to run both in a straight line as well as laterally. He also displayed some impressive explosion, throwing down a dunk in transition.
Gilbert had a solid season for the Mojave JV program. He looks like he’s grown a little, and the added height helped him in rebounding opportunities. He has a nice touch from mid range and helped provide interior production for LV United.
Look for Natale to be a potential stockriser, as he capped off a strong Spring League with a solid performance. He’s shown the ability to be a sharpshooter, and on this day he was accurate from the corner. At 6’4 he has terrific size for a high school shooting guard, and showed that he can score the basketball in multiple ways.
Highlights
Nickerson is a talented player, that has put togther several strong performances the last couple of times I’ve seen him play in person. This time was no different. The lefty showed terrific wiggle using a deft handle to avoid defenders. More of a scorer than a shooter, he did show the ability to knock down open jumpers.
