Every year April arrives, revealing to college recruiters many worthy and unworthy candidates for scouting, tracking, or offering. After they get off of the road, they look through their notes as a team and begin the process in earnest of contacting players, inviting players to campus, to camps.
[player_tooltip player_id='1560719' first='Trey' last='Pearson'] (Pope Prep / Brad Beal Elite 15u) thrived in April, poking free an astonishing 2.2 steals per game. This was the third best in the entire Nike 15 (EYBL) division! Pearson was also one of the top passers in the prestigious division (3.8 apg). A few colleges noticed, despite him playing in the rarely-recruited 15u age group. Often, college coaches invest their time in scouting 17u players, the guys who are just a year away from playing for them. Pearson was tracked constantly by Iowa State. "My parents and I spoke with Memphis coaching staff last night (5/16). Iowa State coach reaches out about once a week just to touch base. And overtime elite is also in the mix." Overtime Elite is the pro basketball program in Atlanta, that is trying to wedge into a weigh station between high school and the NBA. It is quite new, only a couple of years old, and they had success luring a handful of high, high-end talent in their first year. Pearson was PrepHoopsTN Fall Combine Young MVP back in October 2022.
