They continued their strong push early this grassroots season by making a power move and welcoming one of the best basketball minds in the midwest in the gym last night. Coach Taylor, or @oldmaninthegym as found on Twitter, visited the Midwest Stampede and ran a shooting and scoring clinic. Coach Taylor has an impressive basketball resume, including over 500 career college coaching victories to his name. He’s a wealth of basketball knowledge and a tremendous teacher of the game.
Needless to say, it was an incredible experience for those in the Midwest Stampede program to get to work with Coach Taylor last night. The players were focused and didn’t just get better, but more importantly Coach Taylor taught them how to continue to get better. Let’s look at some highlights of the night and some players involved.
Zickert is a talented guard that was a varsity starter as a freshman. He put in some great work involving the use and execution of the push dribble. He’s gained muscle mass over the last year and that will help him show continued improvement in his scoring.
Turner is a gritty and versatile player. He has a nice corner jumper and it really showed in a drill going baseline to baseline with his shot. Turner looks like he will be a difference maker with Clinton next season.
Boos has turned some heads already this spring and it’s easy to see why with the way he went to work at Coach Taylor’s skill session. Boos worked really hard and found his groove with his shot as he worked through a proper shooting warmup.
Highlights
Arnold has the ability to really groove his jumper and Coach Taylor had some really valuable ideas relating to Arnold. You could see his jumper take form as they worked on proper foot placement and momentum.
James O’Connor

O’Connor is a rising prospect that is a perfect fit for the Midwest Stampede program. He really went to work in the 1-on-1 drill play, most notably the 4 dribble aspect. He did a nice job of attacking with the push and using his body to create looks.
