The brothers finished things off at WAVOR the Game and while it may not have resulted in a win for Team Oregon, the twins were able to show off their skills one last time in front of a home crowd. The page now turns to the future but there’s a lot to look back on and celebrate – especially these past couple of years at Lincoln High School.
“I mean, obviously our goal was to win state, but third place, it feels good, especially coming from where this team was at two years ago, where they were, like 2-14,” Malachi Seely-Roberts Malachi Seely-Roberts 6'8" | SF Lincoln | 2023 State OR said. “So being able to turn that culture around and to get third at state is just a really cool experience.”
For Malachi, it was another year of growth individually with his game. He averaged 18.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 6.7 assists (good for 2nd in 6A) and did his usual sniping from the outside, hitting over 47 percent from three-point range.
“I think I actually had a really big jump from my junior to senior season,” Seely-Roberts said. “I think I took my game up in all aspects, but more especially inside the three-point line, which then allowed me to have a better three-point shooting season because teams couldn’t just key in on me as a shooter. I think my defense and rebounding especially, got way better, too.”
From here, Roberts and his brother will continue their journey. Both will head off on two-year LDS missions – Malachi to Washington DC and Moroni to Scotland. After that, it will be back to college basketball and Malachi described the tentative plan.
“All the schools that have offered us so far are willing to wait until after we come back from our mission,” Seely-Roberts said. “Right now, I’m probably after my mission, probably going to go JUCO, so we have a couple of national JUCO offers, so talking to them mostly keep in contact and maybe take a couple of visits this spring and then see where it goes from there.”
The main national junior college programs that have offered the boys to date are Colby (KS) and Eastern Arizona. Malachi noted there is a chance he could commit but any actual signing of a letter-of-intent wouldn’t happen until after his mission is complete. He also addressed the possibility of him and Moroni playing together at the next level.
“I think we’re probably going to play together, but it’s not like we’re not a package deal,” Seely-Roberts said. “If one of us really wants to go somewhere
and the other one just doesn’t feel like it’s the right fit, then we won’t, but most likely we’re probably going to go together.”
