The workout, held at the home of the two time defending state champions, consisted of full court drills and 5 on 5 play. I was there to watch as several players made an impression on the coaches in attendance. Here’s my take from the run.
Most Upside
Got my first in depth look at the freshman guard. Despite being one of the younger players the class of 2026 guard held his own against the older competition flashing good ball speed and on ball defense.
Best Prospect
While the workout was for unsigned seniors, Shaw was another underclassman that stole the show. The 4A player of the year made it look easy, knocking down open jumpers getting to the basket at ease and finishing around the rim.
Highlights
Best Athlete
Had some highs and lows at the run. A terrific R&J athlete he had a couple highlights including a missed layup after going around the back to avoid a defender. At 6’6 he’s a legit rim protector with an explosive first leap which allowed him to hammer several shots off the glass.
Best Passer
Haylock threw some tremendous dimes all night. The PG is a pure floor general that showed great vision. He has good breakdown ability and showed the ability to deliver on time on target passes off the bounce.
Best Shooter
Sherrard made my list of top snipers in the state last year. He backed it up during the workout. He was on point, getting into a grove during the 5 on 5 portion of the workout. Sherrard made back to back to back threes over a two game stretch.
Best Big
I continued to be impressed by the class of 2024 big man’s development. He showed more explosion than I remember him during the season. Getting off the ground for a few rim shaking dunks during the workout portion. In the 5 on 5 setting he could not be stopped scoring at will despite facing double and triple teams.
