Hard Work Region Kick Off: Day 1 Standouts

He spent time doing a bit of everything, and defensively he was going from defending in the paint to being used to shut down the opponent's biggest perimeter threat. He moves well laterally at his size, and has such a long frame to contest every shot at a high level. On the offensive end he spent some time running the point, and was able to get to his spots off the dribble. Hit some short/mid-range jumpers while also getting all the way to the rack for some strong finishes. He started off the game with three finishes inside, including one where he shot faked in one way, then pivoted back in the opposite direction to touch it in off the glass. Wallin showcased touch from beyond the arc, as well as a nice floater that was connecting at a high percentage. Outside of scoring he's an excellent passer at 6'5, with the ability to post up and deliver accurate passes from the block, as well as drive and kick it out to open shooters for easy looks. On the defensive end he had a pair of blocks, was active off the ball jumping lazy passes, and rebounded at a high level. Even as a strong 6'5 forward, he was picking up full court and moving his feet with smaller guards to help his team force turnover after turnover. Not only does he have the agility to keep up with smaller guards, but he has a very long wingspan that was proving difficult to pass around/over. Those turnovers led to plenty of transition opportunities for Monteff, and he was finishing above the rim with ease. In the half-court he's a back-to-the-basket threat as he can muscle his way into low post position and then score with a simple shoulder turn. Carretta plays with great change of speeds to maneuver on the ball and get to his spots in the mid-range. Once past his man Jack has the ability to stop on a dime for a pull-up jumper and he also displayed a nice floater game to finish over taller players. At 6'4 he was able to go to work around the rim, and early on had a nice reverse lay-up using the rim to shield off opposing shot blockers. Also stretched the floor with a couple of threes showing his touch from beyond the arc. Cooper runs the floor hard looking to create some transition scoring opportunities while also ensuring he's back on the defensive end to shut down any transition attempts. Solid rebounding presence as well. Had a couple of big blocks and brought a lot of vocal energy to the floor as well to try to get his team fired up.
