The 4 divisions featured some of the best teams in the state, and there was tons of talent across the board.
We continue with a look at part two of some of the many standouts from the D-I semifinals and finals.
John St. Germain John St. Germain 6'2" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State VA | 6’1” PG | STAB ’23
STAB wasn’t able to get it done against one of the top teams in the country in PVI in the state championship, but St. Germain took on the challenge of guarding some of the best players in the country and doing a good job at it. He challenged players defensively moving his feet well and making them take tough shots, offensively he did his usual thing as the floor general and made great decisions throughout the event. He finished with 13 points, 7 assists and 2 steals in their win over Catholic in the semifinals.
Carter Lang Carter Lang 6'9" | C St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State #199 Nation VA | 6’9” C | STAB ’23
The Vanderbilit commit was a rock for STAB all season, and he was a big reason they were able to have their most successful season ever and make it to the state championship. Lang’s big frame was intimidating for drivers all weekend, he sealed and finished well in the paint as well as showing his ability to stretch the floor in the midrange and from deep and he controlled the glass on both ends as well. He finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds in their win over Catholic and 11 points and 9 rebounds in their loss to PVI.
Chance Mallory Chance Mallory 5'10" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2025 State #73 Nation VA | 5’9” PG | STAB ’25
Mallory was one of the best players in the state all year long, and while he didn’t have the best weekend he still showed his ability to score the ball in different ways and his two way impact across the board. While he isn’t the biggest guy Mallory has a super advanced skillset with the ability to shoot the ball from well beyond NBA range, he’s a dog defensively who has quick hands and can force turnovers and he makes winning plays across the board. He finished with 16 points and 3 assists in their win over Catholic and had 14 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds in their loss to PVI.
Austin Williford Austin Williford 6'4" | CG Saint Anne’s Belfield | 2025 State #137 Nation VA | 6’5” WF | STAB ’25
It was a coming out party for Williford who is one of the top ranked sophomores in our 2025 rankings, and on the biggest stage he showed why he’s going to be recruited at the top level. The 6’5” wing showed his improved consistence in his shot making ability from deep, he played above the rim and rebounded well on both ends of the floor and he defended multiple positions and got after it on both ends. He finished with 23 points going 7-for-7 from the field in their semifinal win over Catholic.
CJ McPherson CJ McPherson 6'3" | SG Norfolk Collegiate | 2023 State VA | 6’3” WG | Catholic ’23
McPherson did everything he could to help Catholic get a shot at a state championship, but it just wasn’t enough as STAB had too much firepower. The available 6’3” wing showed his ability to score it in different ways whether it was catch-and-shoot threes, hitting the pull-up in the midrange or getting downhill and using his strength to finish at the rim. He competed across the board and was one of their most productive players throughout the game.
Aidan Filippini | 6’5” CG | Catholic ’23
Filippini is Catholic’s x-factor and glue guy that has been there the longest and is one of their most reliable players on both ends of the floor, and when they needed plays to be made he was there to get the job done. The 6’5” guard showed his versatility on the defensive end by guarding almost every position on the floor, he did all the little things to help his team in winning ways and when they were down and needed a spark in the second half he was aggressive off the bounce to make plays. He will be a great addition at Notre Dame College next year.
Josiah Rickards Josiah Rickards 6'3" | CG Catholic | 2024 State VA | 6’3” CG | Catholic ’24
Rickards is one of the most talented players in the 757 and was a big reason for Catholic’s success this year, and he showed that by making an array of plays for them on the biggest stage. The 6’3” combo guard was great getting to spots and scoring it off the bounce from multiple levels, he rebounded well for his position and he showed his breakdown ability off the bounce to make plays for himself and others.
