The first live period is officially less than a month away and while it’s almost guaranteed that the AAU ‘transfer portal’ opens up we will see a change of scenery for a bunch of the prospects that I’ll highlight over the next week or so, it’s still that time to shed light on who should be on folks’ radar moving into spring. We move onto the 2024 wing prospects.
Caleb Williams Caleb Williams 6'7" | SF Sidwell Friends | 2024 State #93 Nation MD | Team Takeover
Williams returns to Team Takeover after a calendar year that included nothing but wins. He helped Takeover to the 16U Peach Jam title and transitioned those winning ways to the high school season with Sidwell Friends capturing the MAC and DCSAA championships. Williams’ blend of size and skill at 6’7 make him intriguing at the college level, which is why programs such as Michigan, Indiana, Virginia, Providence and more are all courting his signature. Williams is a shot-maker off the catch from three, a multi-positional defender and comes with a long history of knowing what it takes to win on big stages.
Drew McKenna Drew McKenna 6'7" | PF Glenelg Country | 2024 #61 Nation MD | Team Loaded
McKenna made the switch to Team Loaded after spending the past couple of seasons playing on the EYBL Circuit. The 6’8 wing is coming off of an extremely productive junior season at Glenelg Country where despite his team’s struggles, McKenna showcased the ability to carry a team with his scoring versatility. McKenna used the DMV Live stage last summer to springboard onto the national rankings. Maryland, Xavier, Butler and VCU are among the list of schools that have put in time with McKenna over the year. New Georgetown head coach, Ed Cooley, didn’t wait long to extend an offer his way in hopes to establish a relationship moving forward.
Caden Diggs Caden Diggs 6'7" | SF Bullis | 2024 State #125 Nation MD | New World
Diggs is a prospect that I’ll be watching closely this spring in hopes to see continued development. He has the makeup that you’d want in a player at his positional to go with bouncy athleticism in space. There were plenty of instances where Diggs shows spurts of being the high-level wing that he is capable of, but if he can put together consistent performances at this level throughout the spring and summer with New World, power five programs could pull the trigger on offering Diggs. Diggs was a crucial piece to a dominant Bullis squad who won the IAC title this winter.
Scottie Hubbard Scottie Hubbard 6'5" | SG Jackson-Reed | 2024 State MD | Truth AAU
Hubbard showed the necessary progressions this season to impact the game at both ends for St. Andrew’s. He stands close to 6’6 while possessing guard skills off the dribble. He can create for himself in isolations, is becoming more patient in ball-screen reads and has the athleticism on plays around the basket to put pressure on opposing shot-blockers. Hubbard is garnering interest from a slew of MM programs and has an opportunity to generate more offers by proving himself as a two-way threat over the next four months.
Macon Emory | Team Melo
Emory doesn’t play his high school ball in MD/DC, but will suit up with Team Melo and has the chance to really spark his recruitment this spring thanks to his combination of size at 6’7-6’8 and elite outside shooting. Emory has textbook form with a quick release on quick catch and shoots from kick-out passes. He can establish his solid base on shot off of movement as well, so I’d expect Emory to be featured in plenty of pindowns when Melo needs a quick-hitter. Emory has heard from a few programs recently, but I’d predict that it won’t take long for his recruitment to pick up after coaches see him in person where you get a better feel for his size.
