No time is more frenetic and hyped as Sub-State Monday. Who asserted their will on the massive moment?

[player_tooltip player_id='1838596' first='De'Andre' last='Turnbow'] (Chattanooga Prep)

Exciting freshman guard. Turnbow needs to improve his outside shooting, for sure. Still, his performance against Pickett County established him as a potent freshman scorer in the lane. Defensive focus was not a problem. To be fair the game was an enormous opportunity and filled with tension and purpose. Perhaps defensive focus should be evaluated in a more mundane atmosphere.

It was not a flawless game for Jacob, but he did make a courageous play in the final 20 seconds with a step-through at the free throw line into a hard banked layup over the rim. The ref waved it off and credited [player_tooltip player_id='1273545' first='Jacob' last='Amonett'] with drawing a critical foul first. Jacob hit both free throws to tie the game, 48-48. Seconds better JA was ripped by Chattanooga Prep guard [player_tooltip player_id='1838577' first='Ta'Suade' last='Williams'], in a potentially crushing moment. His two made free throws did rectify that slip up. As a team, shooting is a strength. Post defense and defensive rebounding are a deep concern. Pickett County showed in their game against Chattanooga Prep that they can shift comfortably to a scrappy 2-3 zone. Jacob's on-ball defense was decent. His ball-handling was better than average in the halfcourt and, at times, suspect when pressed fullcourt.

Isaiah Thomison (Fayetteville)

Strong post player. Rebounded well in his area. Finished a putback or two against Frank Hughes Monday night. Really strong, IT made a layup after a pummeling on the way up. For what it is worth, he missed the ensuing free throw. Thomison did not play above the rim like his more athletic wing teammates.

Samuel Willoughby (Fayetteville)

Elegant wing. Defends without fouling. Rebounds better than most Class wings. Explosive. Did not force shots against Frank Hughes.

Camaurian Taylor (Fayetteville)

Stripped away consecutive dribbles from the His teammates hit both shops, expanding the lead to 11-5 early and inspiring a Frank Hughes timeout. So desperate to keep the pace slow and the offense methodical, Frank Hughes High School guards could not afford to turn the ball over, and yet Taylor did just that twice in a row.

[player_tooltip player_id='1259395' first='King' last='Keary'] (Goodpasture)

King's patience with the basketball enabled [player_tooltip player_id='992516' first='Isaiah' last='West'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1259393' first='Jayden' last='Jones'] to work, to get frequent shot attempts. Keary did not force shots or turn the ball over. He played it clean and safe.
