The senior erupted in Westside-Augusta’s thrilling 89-81 overtime victory, dumping in 36 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals as the dog came out. Tillman shined with his outside shot, hitting tough pull-up after tough pull-up from the mid-range while adding in four three-pointers. Tillman made things happen downhill as well, throwing down a one-handed jam that helped Westside get back in the game after trailing 50-39 in the third quarter.
It had to be Hudson. The heart and soul of Westside’s juggernaut found a way to battle inside for position to snag an offense rebound and flip in a difficult putback with 14 seconds left to force the game to overtime. Hudson finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. His toughness and nose for the ball are exemplary. Khalon is a winner that does the dirty work and scores exceptionally well with his mid-range jumper.
Highlights
McClain was terrific, nearly supplying the dagger when he sank a transition corner three with 36 seconds left to push the Storm ahead by two before Hudson’s heroics. Devin posted 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists while shooting 7-15 from the field including 5-12 from deep. His growth from primarily an energy slasher into a big-shot maker on the perimeter has been impressive. He’s a nice small school prospect.
With 114 threes to his name, Thacker decided to further lengthen his lead in the record books by shooting 7-12 from beyond the arc as he finished with 22 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. The sharpshooter never hesitated when he saw a glimmer of space and launched from deep, burning the Patriots time and time again as the Storm went 17-34 from the three-point line. Thacker’s pure stroke and breakout season has vaulted him into the discussion as being one of the very best shooters in Georgia.
Brown had explosive plays downhill and hit pretty jumpers from the perimeter as he piled in 22 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in Kell’s first state title victory. Brown was hot early on and finished with a flurry, erupting toward the rim. CJ is a tremendous athlete, but it was his jump shot that helped balance his attack, going 7-14 from the field, 1-1 from three and 7-9 from the line. Brown gets major elevation on his shots, making them difficult to challenge. He’s a High Major prospect.
Mercer is getting a workhorse. David Thomas David Thomas 6’2″ | PG Eagle’s Landing | 2023 State #197 Nation GA was great in a 61-53 loss, rallying his troops to seize a six-point third quarter lead after trailing by as many as 14 points. Thomas posted 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. He was locked in off the dribble, getting to his spots in the mid-range. The accurate shooter made things happen at the rim and in transition. When he wasn’t looking to score, he was setting up Kenny Brayboy for monstrous alley oop slams.
