ORCHARD LAKE ST. MARY’S VS. WARREN DE LA SALLE COLLEGIATE
Prediction: Orchard Lake St. Mary’s
This is going to be a classic. De La Salle is an experienced and talented defending champ, while Orchard Lake St. Mary’s is young and exciting with state title talent themselves.
Players to watch:
McKenney is an elite talent with a college ready frame. He’s a national high major recruiting target, recently receiving an offer from LSU. McKenney is a fast twitch athlete that can score at all 3 levels. I love his shot making and decision making abilities, especially when it comes to his mid range game.
Smith has been a menace to opponents in the backcourt all season. He’s the veteran leader that every team wants to have to put the ball in their hands in crunch time. The Lake Superior State commit can both distribute and score and has a solid feel for what his team needs from him and when they need it.
MUSKEGON VS. EAST LANSING
Prediction: Muskegon
East Lansing has come on very strong at the end of the year and are definitely playing their basketball of the season. They have the athletes and playmakers to win this game. Muskegon just sort of seems like a team of destiny right now. They have one of, if not the best, backcourt in the state.
Players to watch:
It’d be easy to go with either of the studs in the backcourt, but I think Martin can play a big role in this game. He provides an experienced lineup with some youthful exuberance. When Martin cuts to the rim, attacks and plays off his star guards Muskegon generally wins games. If Martin has a day, they’re probably headed to the Breslin Center.
When you face a player like Jordan Briggs Jordan Briggs 6’0″ | PG Muskegon | 2023 State MI , it can be imperative to have a rim protector. Hutson is a bouncy forward that can challenge and alter shots. If Briggs gets to the lane often like he usually does, East Lansing will need Hutson’s defensive prowess. If Hutson can limit Muskegon’s easy looks at the rim, it will go a long way toward a trip to the semifinals.
