College Commitment – Scotty Riddle (2023 Gresham)

Last week was one that OIT basketball fans won’t soon forget. The Hustlin’ Owls made recruiting the state of Oregon a priority for their 2023 class and after signing Evan Otten Evan Otten 6'10" | C Redmond | 2023 State OR in the fall, added four more in-state players this spring. Scotty Riddle Scotty Riddle 6'0" | PG Gresham | 2023 State OR was the fourth member to ink a letter-of-intent to play at OIT and the Gresham senior couldn’t be more excited to join his future teammates down in Klamath Falls this next fall.

“The reason I chose OIT is because they have what I want to major in, and the kids that were planning on signing there I’ve been wanting to play with them,” Riddle said. “What I really like about the program so far is the coaches they are very interested in what you have planned not just during college but whatever else you decide to do after college. They make sure you are always good and are willing to help if you need it.”

Another thing that played a factor for Riddle was the fact his father, Scotty Sr., also played at OIT – and was a member of the Hustlin’ Owls national championship team in 2012. “It influenced my decision a good amount because he would just tell me about all the memories he had from there and all the life long friendships he still has,” Riddle said. “To me that just interested me a lot more into going to the school.”

An all-around guard that averaged 13 points this past season for the Gophers, Riddle really excelled in the Gophers’ style of play and was a key factor in how they were able to reach the 6A state tournament, where they finished in 4th Place. Now that his high school playing days are done, he’s looking ahead toward college and knows what he needs to do in order to play at the high level of the Cascade Conference.

“One main part right now is just the weight room getting bigger and stronger,” Riddle said. “But basketball wise my footwork on finishing under the basketball and different variety’s of mid-range.”
