I have put so much ink on Caleb, and he is just a freshman that has led his team to the state championship. A lot of questions surround his future in the state of Alabama, but like I told many at the final four, let’s enjoy the greatness while we can. It is hard to just talk about his championship game performance when he had possibly the best personal performance in both the semi-final game and the final game of anyone in the history of the state of AL who has played on that stage. His finals stats are below, but here are his semi-final stats: 33pts (8-17 [1-3 3-Ptr]), 14rebs, 5-steals, and did I mention that we are talking about a freshman. At the time of this writing, the POY award has gone to LaBarron Philon, but many believe that Caleb Holt is the best player in the state of AL, regardless of class. If you want to know what I have seen of his overall game, just search his name and read some of my previous articles. Caleb is a player that will be able to punch his ticket to whatever college he wants to go to, as it is evident by within the past week, several big-name coaches have inquired about this young man. He finished with the following stat line: 32pts (12-18 [3-5 3-Ptr]); 18rebs
Terrence Robinson Terrence Robinson 6'1" | CG Buckhorn | 2023 State AL (6’1/F/’23/Buckhorn)
Terrence benefited from the Buckhorn squad’s late-season bonding as he began to step up and be the glue guy. By the time they got to the championship game, Terrence had emerged into the guy for Buckhorn, that was their gladiator on the boards and the guy who did all the dirty work in the paint. He also benefitted from Caleb’s playmaking abilities and was the recipient of drop-off passes that gave him easy buckets around the rim. In a game where Buckhorn’s star Caleb Holt was absolutely sensational, T-Rob gave exactly what was needed in every other area of the game. They were areas not seen in the stat sheet but make no mistake; his play was vital to Buckhorn winning state.
Terry J. DrakeHe finished with the following stat line: 10pts (5-9)
Jeremiah Wilson Jeremiah Wilson 6'3" | PG Buckhorn HS | 2025 State #270 Nation AL (6’3/PG/’25/Buckhorn HS)

Jeremiah’s production and impact are not seen in the stat line; however, his play was huge in the championship game, especially when it came to facilitating on offense and his play on defense. With Caleb carrying much of the scoring load, Jeremiah was able to be a primary ball-handler against Mountain Brook’s pressure defense, assist on the glass, and play smothering defense. It may not look like he was impactful according to the stats, but his play greatly assisted Buckhorn in capturing the blue map.

Mountain Brook HS
Ty Davis Ty Davis 6'5" | SG Mountain Brook | 2024 State #191 Nation AL (6’3/CG/2024/Mountain Brook HS)

Ty led Mountain Book’s big three and was very aggressive coming out the gates. He is known for his ability to knock down the trey ball and to do it from deep, but it was his play off the bounce that gave Buckhorn defenders problems. Ty constantly got by defenders getting to the paint, where he made scoring plays and made plays by finding open teammates. He did not shoot the ball exceptionally well from behind the arc, but the mere fact that he is the caliber shooter that he is kept Buckhorn defenders honest. Ty’s stock is steadily increasing amongst coaches at the next level, and leading his team to the final four only continues to solidify his potential value to programs at the next level. Yes, he can shoot the rock, but he’s a kid that knows how to win, even though they came up short in the championship game. He finished with the following stat line: 18pts (6-15 [2-7 3-Ptr])
Kyle Layton Kyle Layton 6'0" | PG Mountain Brook | 2023 State AL (6’0/CG/’23/Mountain Brook HS)

Many people believe that with a healthy Kyle, the outcome of this game would have been different. You could tell that Kyle is still making the adjustment of returning to live game action, but it was great seeing him out there. It seemed to take some time for him to get things going, which can be attributed to his comeback journey. Despite all that I just said, Kyle still had some flashes that brought you back to remembering just how good he is on the offensive end of the floor. He made some huge three-point buckets down the stretch that kept the game interesting. His late-game performance had people leaving the game still holding on to the thought that a healthy Kyle would have brought about a different outcome for the Spartans. I look forward to seeing Kyle continue to work his way to 100% and then seeing him at the next level. He finished with the following stat line: 15pts (5-9 [5-8 3-Ptr])
Julius Clark Julius Clark 6'5" | PF Mountain Brook | 2023 State AL (6’6/Small Forward/’23/Mountain Brook HS)

Julius finished with a double-double and was a match-up nightmare for the smaller frontcourt players that Buckhorn had in the paint. Julius showed a stronger face-up game than what I have seen from his game, and his ability to face up and attack using his strength off the bounce was something that Buckhorn defenders had no answer for throughout the game. Julius was efficient from the field as he played within himself and did all that was asked of him to help the Spartans win the blue map. Even though their quest came up short, Julius showed the type of impact he can have, but he still has to continue expanding his game onto the perimeter as he prepares for life at the next level. He finished with the following stat line: 13pts (5-6); 11rebs
