Continue ReadingPrep Hoops recently updated their prospect rankings for the class of 2023. A lot of times people look at the combined number in front of the names, but equally as important can be the number an athlete holds at their position. This is a little challenging given the positionless trend, but regardless, I’m going to give you a little closer look at the number 1 player at each position in the class of 2023.
POINT GUARD
Olafioye has been a pleasure to watch over the last 4 plus years. His game has grown tremendously. Let’s put it this way, Olafioye is a winner. That’s why. once again, his Ecorse team is making a very deep playoff run. He makes big plays and scores big buckets in big games. As dynamic as he is, he’s stepped up his activity on the boards during the playoffs to help his team continue to advance. Olafioye is going to be a HUGE late add for a team at the next level.
SHOOTING GUARD
Hurst is one of the toughest defensive assignments in the state of Michigan. I don’t think there’s a spot on the floor that he’s not a threat to score from. Even when defenders think they have him where they want him, he changes speeds or direction and leaves them grasping. Hurst can go downhill, then pull up on a dime and bury a jumper. Detroit Mercy has a gem on the way.
COMBO GUARD
Blackwell will be off to Wisconsin to continue his basketball career. In my opinion, he’ll be a lead guard at the next level, but we all know he can play on or off the ball. Actually his position is a testament to his hard work. Blackwell came into high school as a 2, but has grinded, worked and developed his game. He’s a physical and strong guard that can play through contact which will serve him well at the next level.
SMALL FORWARD
In my opinion, Williams has the skill set and physical profile of a star at the next level. He can match up physically on the wing, but still plays in a smooth style that suits his skills. Williams can finish at the rim and above the rim. He can stalk the 3 point line, find an open spot and deliver from long range. Louisville fans should be really excited to have this young man comin in next season.

Ward is a stellar floor stretching 4 that can absolutely catch fire from behind the arc. If the defense steps out too much on his shot or closes out too hard, he can put it on the floor and finish at the rim with power. CENTER
Sulaka has come as far as anyone in the last few years. He’s always been an elite defensive talent, which he still is. Sulaka plays vertical defense and protects the rim by challenging and blocking shots. His offensive game has developed nicely. Sulaka is now a 2 way player that has a couple legit post moves with his back to the basket. He’s also gotten stronger, allowing him to go up with strength on put back opportunities. Sulaka will be playing at Western Michigan next season.
