So many players put their toolsets on display to pickup hard-fought wins for their team and I didn’t want to miss out on any of the deserving names, so let’s dive in to our last group of talented standouts from this past weekend’s event.
Ryan Jackson
Ryan Jackson
The 5-foot-9 guard did a good job of finish around the contest around bigger defenders, which he did with some impressive scoop layups. Jackson was able to get downhill at a good rate and converted on a couple of floaters in the lane. Jackson shot the ball with confidence and knocked a few catch and shoot three-pointers as well as a self-created fadeaway jumper in the mid-range area.
Damiek Phelps
Damiek Phelps
Phelps played with tons of aggression and an attack-first mind set this past weekend in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Phelps did a good job of putting pressure on the rim, pushing the pace in transition, and finishing fast breaks by himself. The Footprint forward dominated in the paint, using massive hop steps to slice through defenders and beating defenders off the dribble for floaters in the lane or short jumpers in the low post.
Zaquis Timberlake
Zaquis Timberlake
The 6-foot-1 guard was everywhere on the court this past weekend and was a swiss army knife for Triple Threat Nation as he took care of business on both ends of the court. I thought Timberlake did an impressive job of attacking the paint, at times leaving the defense with no other option but to foul him on the shot. Timberlake got to the rim at will and finished with some acrobat layups in traffic. He was able to create three-pointers for himself with step-back dribbles as well as knocking down the open catch and shoot opportunities. On the defensive end, Timberlake was active in the passing lanes and converted off of the turnovers that he forced himself.
Cam Shaw
Cam Shaw
Shaw played an effective game throughout this past weekend’s event in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He opened up one game with a comfortable-looking mid-range jumper off the dribble in the free throw extended area. He finished around the rim at a good rate and utilized his long limbs to attack the paint with hop-steps and lengthy strides. On the defensive end, Shaw was a hustle player, fighting for loose balls and keeps the ball inbound with an impressive save at one point.
Shemeil Harris
Shemeil Harris
Harris might have been the most impressive 16u defender from this past weekend, in my opinion. Not only does Harris have elite positional size and measurable for his age, he also plays with an advanced understanding of how to lock down the paint. Harris was erasing shots left and right and showed the defensive awareness to rotate over to meet the opposing ball handler at the rim for a block as well as the hustle to get a chase down block from behind in transition. On the offensive end, Harris was able to clean up missed shots with put back layups around the rim and also reads for easy assist when the ball was his hands.
