Continue ReadingWe recently updated our sophomore class rankings in the state of VA, and we will take a look at each positional ranking from guards, wings and forwards. Obviously some of these players are positionless players that can fit in multiple spots, but we did our best to categorize them based on their skillset.
Here’s a look at part two of the top shooting guards and small forwards in the new rankings.
11) Mykell Harvey | 6’3” SF | Northside (#39 Overall)
Harvey is part of a young group on Northside that has them looking like one of the best teams in the state, and he’s been a big reason why as he brings them good size and athleticism on the wing to go along with their talented guards. The 6’3” wing is terrific in transition as a finisher, he can guard the other team’s best perimeter scorer and he can go inside where he can post smaller guys and is a good rebounder too.
10) Cortlin Siska Cortlin Siska 6'4" | SG Immaculate Conception | 2025 State NJ | 6’4” SG | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#37 Overall)
Siska is part of a young core at SSSAS that has a lot of promise moving forward, and he’s a big part of that as he’s shown flashes of huge potential moving forward. At 6’4” he already has good size on the wing and he’s shown that he can play on or off the basketball, he scores it efficiently and takes good shots and he plays with a good motor as a big guard who can defend and rebound.
9) Zekiah Bradley-Gilbert | 6’6” SF | Christchurch (#34 Overall)
Bradley-Gilbert could be higher on this list but we simply don’t get the chance to watch Christchurch very much, but he has shown massive upside with his skillset at his size. The 6’6” wing is a mismatch as he can put it on the deck and use his size to finish at and above the rim, he can get to spots in the midrange and from deep and use his frame to shoot over defenders and he’s becoming more fluid and athletic as he grows into his body.
8) Anthony Saunders Anthony Saunders 6'2" | SG Edison | 2025 State VA | 6’2” SG | Edison (#32 Overall)
Saunders has flashed a lot of potential and ability as a young player for a good Edison team, and he’s took a considerable leap in production from his freshman to sophomore year. The 6’2” off guard is long and an explosive athlete allowing him to make plays across the board on both ends, he’s a triple threat offensively and can make plays for himself and others and he can knock down shots at a consistent and efficient rate.
7) Chancellor Perkins Chancellor Perkins 6'2" | SG Highland | 2025 State VA | 6’1” SG | Highland School (#29 Overall)
Perkins is part of a Highland School team that has been the surprise of the VISAA so far this season, and just completed a perfect 12-0 record in the tough MPSCA conference. While he isn’t the biggest at his position Perkins is a tough shot maker from multiple levels, he can heat up quickly and knock down shots consecutively and he’s a good athlete who doesn’t shy away from tough matchups defensively.
6) Colby White Colby White 6'5" | SF Blue Ridge | 2025 State VA | 6’5” SF | Blue Ridge (#21 Overall)
White is a rising star in the Virginia basketball scene, as the Buckingham native has made a splash in his sophomore season at Blue Ridge and is just scratching the surface with how good he can be. At 6’5” White has a good frame with long arms and should fill out nicely as he gets older, he has great ball skills as he can create on the perimeter and knock down shots from deep and he’s a good defender who can guard multiple positions too. He’s a very good athlete and has tons of upside moving forward, and I expect him to burst on the recruitment scene this summer.
