Continue ReadingWe recently updated our sophomore class rankings in the state of VA, and we will take a look at each positional ranking from guards, wings and forwards. Obviously some of these players are positionless players that can fit in multiple spots, but we did our best to categorize them based on their skillset.
Here’s a look at part one of the power forwards and centers in the new rankings.
11) Bradon Edozie | 6’8” C | Forest Park (#35 Overall)
Edozie has been one of the best young players in NOVA public schools since he stepped on the floor, as he’s a walking double-double with a lot of upside moving forward. He’s grown quite a bit since he started as a freshman, he has long arms and is quick off his feet to rebound and protect the rim and he plays hard on both ends of the floor making him a productive two way player already.
10) Xavier Wilson Xavier Wilson 6'5" | C Colonial Forge | 2025 State VA | 6’5” C | Colonial Forge (#23 Overall)
Wilson is part of a young Forge team that has surprised a lot of people this year, and he’s one of the top young prospects in the Fredericksburg area to keep an eye on. The 6’5” big man is a very good athlete with a good frame, he does all of the dirty work in the paint and he brings toughness and a high motor on both ends of the floor.
9) David Miller David Miller 6'6" | PF Green Run | 2025 State VA | 6’5” PF | Green Run (#22 Overall)
Miller showed a lot of potential as a freshman with Green Run, and in his sophomore season he has taken the reigns as the go-to guy and has emerged as one of the top bigs in the 757. At 6’5” he’s a load in the paint and can clear out space and finish in the paint, he has good ball skills on the perimeter as a shooter and ball handler and defensively he protects the rim and rebounds bigger than his size would suggest.
8) Silas Barksdale Silas Barksdale 6'7" | PF Woodside | 2025 State #176 Nation VA | 6’7” PF | Woodside (#15 Overall)
Barksdale has a lot of tools that bold well for him and make him very intriguing as a prospect in the next few years, and he’s starting to put it together more and more. The 6’7” big man is very mobile for his size and can run the floor and moves well laterally, he can elevate to finish above the rim and is a good rebounder and shot blocker and he can step out to the midrange where he shows good touch and attack in face ups.
7) Jordan McConnell Jordan McConnell 6'10" | C Phillips Exeter Academy | 2025 State VA | 6’10” C | Woodberry Forest (#14 Overall)
McConnell, like many young big men, is still a project at this point in his career, but he shows major upside with his base skillset and size at his age. At 6’10” he has a massive frame and is able to clog the lane defensively and seal offensively to finish at the rim, he shows good touch out to the three-point range to stretch the floor and he has soft touch to be able to finish in the paint too.
6) Riley Jacobs Riley Jacobs 6'8" | C St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2025 State VA | 6’7” C | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#13 Overall)
Jacobs has shot up this list as he’s shown tremendous growth from his freshman to his sophomore year, and as he’s putting it together he’s going to start seeing more and more coaches take notice. The 6’7” big man is a walking double-double who rebounds and finishes everything in the paint, he has long arms to get deflections and challenge shots and he’s a load in the paint to deal with in one-on-one situations. He’s going to continue to climb the rankings as he continues to grow and improve.
