Williams is a dynamic combo guard originally from the Chicago area, but has come to northeast Ohio to play for ISA this season. I was impressed with the shiftiness of Williams and his shooting ability from the outside. A microwave scorer, Williams has the ability to get hot and completely take over a game with his scoring ability. I believe scholarship programs should be taking a look at Williams as there aren’t many more talented guards still available in Ohio’s 2023 class.
Adorno, who has played for Puerto Rico’s national team at youth levels is playing his first season in the OHSAA with Princeton. Adorno is scoring 15 PPG on 51/40/80 shooting splits in one of the toughest leagues in Ohio. I’m impressed by the pace that Adorno plays with and his ability to get to his spots without being the quickest guy on the court. His touch is another aspect of his game that will translate to the college level. I’m a big fan of what Adorno can bring to a team and think scholarship programs should be giving him a look.
One of the better perimeter defenders in Ohio’s 2023 class, Watkins is a two-way impact guard who has been one of the best players in NW Ohio this season. Watkins is a capable shooter from the outside and able to play both on and off the ball offensively in the half court. Watkins should be on scholarship recruiting boards and regional Division III programs should also be reaching out as Watkins could be an instant impact player in a league like the OAC.
Hummel is having a great season for one of the surprise teams in central Ohio, Olentangy Liberty. Currently atop the toughest OCC league and the second seed in the central region playoffs. Hummel’s performance in a victory over rival Olentangy Orange featured some tough shots in big moments and him controlling the tempo with his slashing game. I’m a fan of Hummel’s toughness and ability to score in the paint. Division III programs should be looking at Hummel as their next primary guard.
There aren’t many, if any, better perimeter defenders than Pettis in Ohio. One of the peskiest on ball defenders, Pettis has a knack for giving opposing ball handlers absolute fits at the point of attack. Pettis is also a capable shooter spotting up from 3-point range and is an ideal 3-and-D guard at the Division III level. Jamir Billings played a similar role at Lorain and found instant success at Wooster, while Pettis is a little more limited offensively, the style of play and impact is similar.
