The Headline Games
Goodhue’s Will Opsahl Will Opsahl 6'8" | SF Goodhue | 2023 State MN scored 19 points while creating and rebounding his way to a win over Hayfield as well. This was a statement game in Class A, a statement game in Class A Player of the Year chatter, and a statement game for that Mr. Basketball list of ten. Adam Poncelet Adam Poncelet 6'3" | SG Goodhue | 2023 State MN had 13 and Justin Buck had 11. Our prediction was WRONG, quite wrong, Goodhue won 66-52.
Cooper Drews Cooper Drews 6'4" | SF Princeton | 2023 State MN exploded for 31 points, 13 boards, and seven assists while Princeton’s defense held Matthew Bothun Matthew Bothun 6'9" | PF St. Francis | 2023 State MN to thirteen points. I predicted an eight point Princeton win but the huge game from Drews and all around team play both ways made this an 83-63 Tiger victory. Drews was certainly up for player of the evening on Tuesday.
Unfortunately Mankato Loyola’s team has been crushed by injuries losing Lawson Godfrey Lawson Godfrey 6'1" | SG Mankato Loyola | 2023 State MN and Carter Zimmerman for some time and while I predicted the winner right (LCWM won), I was not aware of how limited the Loyola was. LCWM go their 20th win led by Zack Wells Zack Wells 6'1" | SG LCWM | 2023 State MN led with 19 and Jack Brockmann Jack Brockmann 6'5" | SG LCWM | 2024 State MN with 15.
Owatonna picked up an important Big Nine win over Rochester Mayo win 64-50 meaning our predictions were 4-1 for the night (we talked North over Eastview in the big article). Huskies keeping pace at the top of the standings and it was Collin Vick Collin Vick 6'2" | PG Owatonna | 2023 State MN leading the way scoring 18.
Others
Huge win for Rushford-Peterson in overtime. Dawson Bunke Dawson Bunke 6'5" | PF Rushford-Peterson | 2024 State MN with the top of the key winner on his way to 24 points while senior Grady Hengel Grady Hengel 5'8" | PG Rushford-Peterson | 2023 MN totaled 33 points for the game!
Jaleel Donley Jaleel Donley 6'1" | PG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State MN of BSM is really playing well right now. Had 26 against St. Louis Park last night and had a really nice showing against Hermantown over the weekend.
Delano freshman Max Iversen Max Iversen 6'2" | PG Delano | 2026 State MN has a scoring touch that can explode and last night it did just that as he had 38 points leading the Tigers over Mound-Westonka.
Jacob Herrick scored a team high 16 for Austin who knocked off Northfield 73-69 for a crucial Big Nine victory.
Lester Prairie junior Trever Schauer went for 30 pushing the Bulldogs past West Lutheran 81-79 for the win.
