The Friday Combo. For you basketball fans in the Mankato area you can start with Sibley East at New Ulm Cathedral with the 4:45 very early start and then head on up to Mankato for Sleepy Eye and Mankato Loyola. Tyler Vaughn has taken over Sleepy Eye and is doing a solid job while New Ulm Cathedral has taken a step back this season after many years of contending. Sleepy Eye is improved this year winning seven games while Loyola was a contender but has been stung hard by injuries. Sleepy Eye and Loyola play at 7:30.
Friday’s Best. This is most certainly BSM vs Orono. There is a lot in the line in this game starting with conference play as BSM has a 1.5 game lead on Orono for the top of the Metro West. In addition, BSM is the line 6AAA team that has not lost a game to a section team yet and if they beat Orono tonight they would have to be the unquestioned one seed. Also, with Totino-Grace losing to a .500 Osseo team, number one in Class AAA is up for grabs next week and BSM is in a spot to grab it with a good weekend (they have Orono tonight and then Waconia, who started their improvement by beating BSM to improve to 4-10, on Saturday in a make up game from earlier in the week, I think). Here are the line-ups (assuming all area healthy as I know Orono had been dealing with some sickness).
One. Jaleel Donley Jaleel Donley 6'1" | PG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State MN vs Isaiah Hagen Isaiah Hagen 6'3" | PG Orono | 2023 State MN . These are bigger playmaking guards that will handle, score, create, and could be the difference in the game.
Two. Ron Lee vs Nolan Groves Nolan Groves 6'4" | CG Orono | 2025 State #259 Nation MN . Lee is a hard working aggressive guard, Groves is an up and coming sophomore scoring a dozen a contest.
Three. Christian Wiggins Christian Wiggins 6'3" | SG Wayzata | 2026 State MN vs Kyle Kallenbach Kyle Kallenbach 6'0" | CG Orono | 2023 State MN . One of the top frosh in the state in the state against a top senior sharp shooter.
Four. Jayden Daisy Jayden Daisy 6'4" | SG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2024 State MN vs Grant Gunderson Grant Gunderson 6'4" | CG Orono | 2023 State MN . Daisy is scoring 13 points a game, Gunderson is the hard working defender, rebounder and grinder.
Five. Jalen Wilson Jalen Wilson 6'8" | PF Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State #230 Nation MN vs Brady Wooley Brady Wooley 6'9" | C Orono | 2025 State #187 Nation MN . Top two sophomore prospects in the state, Wilson is physically more ready and is an all state player while Wooley has huge potential and his best days are 2-3 years in front of him.
Bang For the Buck. The Big South Conference Showcase is all day tomorrow. It starts at 10am with Fairmont against St. James and ends with a great game between New Ulm and Waseca at a schedule 7:30pm. There are seven games in all and the one place in Minnesota where you can get to a full day of basketball.
Saturday’s Best. That would be Lyle/Austin Pacelli at Spring Grove, or Wayzata at Minneapolis North for those in the metro. There is also a potential fun match-up between Minneapolis Edison vs St. Paul Central.

LATE ADDITION. When I made the “top 20 games of the week” the Hayfield vs Maple River game was not on Minnesota Scores or the Minnesota Basketball Hub. But the match-up of 6th ranked Maple River versus 10th ranked Hayfield takes place on Saturday and is surely a top three game of the weekend.
